Them's the worstest.

It's always seemed to me that when schools took kids' pocketknives, they didn't just take potential weapons, they took icons of self-reliance and responsibility. In the knife's place they left a perceived parallel between knives and violent counterculture.

A bad thing, much worse than the knives ever were.

Since second grade I have failed to have at least one knife with me during waking hours two or three times, always pointy things. That was a problem?

Knife control is especially effective in the UK because apparently they don't have metal, grinders, or saws and people intelligent enough to fabricate a weapon as complicated as a knife. Their criminals are so dumb they don't even know how to fashion shivs in prison.

And to think, a mere 70 or so years ago, they held off Hitler and the blitz virtually alone for several years until we got involved. Perhaps peace is not all it's cracked up to be. Their fair island seems to have become infested with rabbit-people.

Self-protection is not a reasonable excuse for carrying an offensive weapon.
