An interesting analogy

I was watching a show with my wife this morning (Love it or List It), and the episode featured a gay couple. My wife remarked about how much we have changed as a society in the last 10-15 years, and how she personally has gotten more comfortable seeing gay couples on the street or on TV.
Given the recent discussion about OC and the irrational fear exhibited by some at the mere sight of a holstered gun, I couldn't help wondering if we might see something similar, where people get more and more comfortable with the sight of guns as they see more of their friends and neighbors carrying.
At a minimum, it will give me a new comeback when a liberal tells me they are "uncomfortable" seeing guns. I will just tell them that I understand since I was uncomfortable seeing 2 men hold hands at first, but then I realized that it was an irrational reaction on my part and as I educated myself on the subject, I learned that gay men are not all perverted child molesters like some would have had me believe, and now I am much more comfortable with lifestyle choices other than my own.
This should work especially well if the person I am talking to happens to be homosexual.
