My wife and I are friends with a ret cop and his family. We all sit together at Church and more times than not we eat lunch together on Sundays. Today I found out why he always carries a Bible AND a Bible case--but never the Bible IN the Bible case. Never woulda thought of that.

This is an issue I've been confused about. I remember reading in the handbook we received and our instructor reinforced that churches were automatically "no gun zones" even for CHL holders; however I've read about a lot of people who carry in their churches.

Our instructor said that he even had a CHL class with members of all the same church -- because their building had been burglarized a couple of times and the preacher sent them to get licenses. He said since the church had its own govnering body - they could decide if it's "ok" or not to carry in their church.

Is it permissible in the event the congregation says it's "OK"? Was I confused about what I thought I read?

Confused about what you read..
Churches have to post a valid 30-36 sign to be leagally off limits or give verbal notice that carry is not permitted. A church can decide if it wants to be a gun free zon & if the decide so, they must them post.

You may carry in church.
If you cannot carry in your church, you are welcome to carry in our church.
Several ladies here carry at their church.
Lotta men carry in their church.

If I read it correctly, churches fall under "Unlawful Carrying by CHL" rather than "Trespass by CHL" but churches are still required to post a 30.06 in order for the "Unlawful Carrying" to apply.

I see what I missed:
(i) Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply if the actor
was not given effective notice under Section 30.06.

Yeah, it used to be illegal period, but they changed that a while back to require 30.06 be posted for it to be effective.

Mrs. Fosforos,
There are a few of us that also carry in my church. Several people are starting to get their CHL, and I think our pastor is encouraging it. I know he's quite the gun enthusiast.

Mrs. Anygun and I were fixing supper Saturday evening. I had my Kimber OC since I was at home. My mom, who lives with us, asked me "Did you have that gun on in church?" She only catches about half of what goes on around us so the question did not surprise either of us. I told her that no, I did not have this one but I was carrying a handgun at church. She asked "Is that legal?" Mrs. Anygun and I gave her a quick course in 30.06 and concealed carry in other places. She couldn't believe people carried in church.

If god didn't want me to have it he'd take it away from me. Until such a time, i shall remain armed.

in the spirit of "throw the money WAY up into the air... what god wants, he keeps."
