Any opinions on Colt Defender and Sig Sauer C3?

Hey all,

Well I'm looking at getting either a Colt Defender or a Sig C3. I have handled both and like both quite a bit. I know that the 4 in barrel is supposed to be more dependable, but everything I've read and seen seems to show that Colt got the Defender right and there are little to no issues. Both guns are around the same price point.

So just wondering if anyone on this board has either of these guns and what their thoughts are.

Any thoughts and opinions would be much appreciated.

-Tom

I have both. Out of all of my carry weapons, my Defender is my EDC. Fairly lightweight, accurate, and goes bang every time the bang switch is pulled.

I have an older Defender and like it a lot. I usually carry my XDsc but I prefer my Defender. Nice compact package that sits on the hip well. It has been very dependable. Short barrels usually require a recoil spring replacement every 2-3K, ymmv, so I replaced it with a Kimber spring and it has performed flawlessly. I don't remember what .lb spring but it runs great. At the time getting a recoil spring from Colt was next to impossible.

The wrap-around grips have been replaced. They added bulk that I didn't prefer. Alumagrips were substituted and they have been great.

Can't speak for the Sig but with their reputation I'm sure it is a fine firearm.

Thanks for the replies. Definitely helps me think leaning towards the Colt is the best choice

I have the C3 and I love it. I actually just bought this on Jan 1 as my OC gun. It has been a pleasure shooting this thing.

Had the Colt wish I still did so , shot both, liked Colt better, not problems with either, sold the Colt many years ago to fund my Wilson. The Colt was great in BUG matches.

I can't comment on the Sig, but I've had a lot of people take my CHL classes with the Defendant and all but a very few love it. I've specifically asked about reliability and received few complaints.

I have the Defender and it is great. Reliable, accurate, easy to carry. I also have a Sig (not the C3), but it's not a carry gun. The Sig I do have is the most accurate gun I own (It's a full size 1911 chambered in 9 mm with an extra wide magazine well. Got it as a Father's Day gift.

I'm a mess when it comes to guns. I have a lot spanning polymer (mostly Glock) and 1911. Can't seem to make a decision. That said, the Colt and my G26 are the two I carry most often. That is unless I want ultra concealed in which case I go with my PM9, or the P3AT, or the J frame revolver.

Thanks for all the replies. I went ahead and picked up the Defender. I'm officially a 1911 owner :txflag:
