So, my darling wife is travelling and I'm dealing with the architect on my own. I was just too worn out to cook, so I decided to grab something quick from a nearby deli.
72 miles later I had,
A jumbo corned beef on dark pump with brown mustard and a schmear, latkes with sour cream, and a nice craft brew. While not really a dessert, a nice egg cream really hit the spot as the finale of my meal.
Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

Last Sunday I went to a real deli in Houston for lunch - Kenny & Ziggy's.
I don't go there very often so it was a real treat.
In a city as large as Houston you would think there would be a bigger choice of delis.
I think most real delis have been replaced with chain fast-food sandwich shops.
A real shame.

It has a creamy taste.

Cindy's and Deli News are the only good delis that I know of in Dallas. I'm sure Houston has some as well.

Anyone know of a good one in Austin?

I remember eating at "Alfreds" deli, was once one of the best in these parts...

They have closed but Alfred's son Mike Kahn operates Kahn's in the Village, right across the street from the original Alfred's.
I have never been there, but that's another option.

Alfred's was Houston's deli to the stars. It got mentioned on national TV on Johnny Carson from time to time.

As of January 17th I did not see any signs. And I looked.

I'm afraid so. If you check the comments on texas3006.com, the signs are well above eye level and hard to spot.

Shame, because they really are an awesome deli.

Nope, Polish/Irish/Anglo kid from Pima County. I was blessed with an international palate. Tandoori chicken and some nan, jerk goat with rice and peas, lamb and rice curry, red pepper beef pho, fried gator, Guinness beef and carrots, mufungo, Pats steak, etc, etc, etc. I just love it all.
