Why cut it up? I've saved each of mine, but I guess many would also question that.

Well, I can't find a good answer for you. I would love to keep my first TX CHL. I still have my first OK "CHL." (1999 woot!) I could have sworn that we were required to destroy old TX licenses. My search fu isn't finding any references to that. I thought that it had been a part of some discussions about changes of address. Maybe only destroyed if the info on the license is invalid? Although I am not finding that either.

Once it's out of date, it isn't valid any more. Why would the state want your old plastic?

Not that they wanted it back. I thought that we had to destroy it.

I always cut old and expired ID's up to make sure personal information is exposed to a minimum and to reduce baggage.

My father in law and I went to get our Utah ccw class together and when he died I kept his card. It's a nice keepsake

I still have my NY pistol license, when it was issued it had no expiration date.

I've been licensed in NY (upstate), PA, WV and now TX. They all ended up in the same box as all my old annual hunting tags.

When my TxCHL expired and I got an OKCWL I contacted the DPS. They told me to return the Texas License to them.
