I have limited experience with 45 acp mags but that looks like it doubles the strength at the top. Is this a new concept? if so, why didn't I think of that? (headslap)

Long overdue. I wonder why nobody thought of this before? It seems so simple.

My first thought was how hard that must be to bend over like that without it cracking. Maybe they are waiting for them to crack later.

Another million-dollar idea. And like most million-dollar ideas, it's obvious once we've seen it...and so simple too!

As far as doing the bend without cracking the metal, with proper machining tools it's not difficult at all, especially if some heat is involved. Stamp out the basic form, handle the crimps in a press-brake, with the rest of the folding work, weld it, heat treat it, and ship it. Not that I know HOW to do all that stuff, but I'm fairly certain that's how it happens.

The old sheet metal workers used to call that a Dutch Bend.

Looks well made. But I'm wondering if loading the magazine might be problematic, as it looks like the cartridge rim might get caught on the crimped edge when trying to load it.

Probably someone did. Most all patents are based on previous inventions.
The new invention was probably a slight modification of a previous invention.
Also remember that patent pending doesn't mean that the patent will be approved.

Has a patent been issued, or simply "pending?" I'm far from a patent attorney, but I'd be surprised if this would qualify. As I recall from a patent attorney, "common sense" ideas are not innovative and do not qualify for a patent.

Simple solution: Taper the forward edge of the crimp front to back.

When you cash in, don't forget the guy who gave it to you.

Actually this is unnecessary because it would only become an issue if you depressed the follower just enough to barely squeeze the cartridge in. If you depress it a little further, there would be no contact with the feed lips. In fact, you have to do this with conventional magazines anyway.
