Official calls for San Bernardino employees to be armed
Two months after terrorists gunned down 14 unarmed San Bernardino county workers in a gun-free zone, one local official is calling for county employees to be permitted to carry guns at work and have access to weapons at county facilities.
The proposal made by First District Supervisor Robert Lovingood would have to be approved by the Board of Supervisors, but Longwood said it’s time “to make a strategic shift.” The plan has yet to be formally presented, FOX11 reported.
“Empowering the people to protect themselves is a good place to start,” Lovingood said in an opinion piece for The Victorville Daily Press.
Lovingood’s plan is a three-pronged approach: Calling for county workers – especially those with military experience – to be voluntarily armed, advocating for a “strategically located weapons” cache and encouraging the populace to apply for concealed weapons permits.
“Make no mistake: This is not a call for vigilantism,” Lovingood wrote. “This is a call for self-defense under the law.”

County employee's lives matter.
Citizen's lives do not matter.

San Bernardino Country has a population of 2 million.
This is small compared to the metropolitan areas in California.

Licensing in California is done at the county level.
Unlike Texas they do not have a dedicated staff for performing this function.
Unlike Texas, just buying a handgun requires taking a class and filling out applications.

What does it take to stop a bad guy with a gun? A good guy with a gun.
Society relies on the armed forces and law enforcement to protect us from those that would do us harm. But mass shootings are changing how we think about security, and we need to make a strategic shift.
The perpetrators of the Dec. 2 mass shootings in San Bernardino were determined to commit evil upon defenseless innocents. In a matter of minutes, they murdered 14 people, wounded 21 and traumatized many others. And there was nothing, nothing at all to stop the killers during their brief but devastating rampage. What finally did stop them was “good guys with guns.”
Gun-free zones can’t provide protection from killers. And killers are the problem, not good, honest, responsible people who are armed. When every second counts, well-trained, armed citizens can save lives. In the recent surge of terrorist stabbings in Israel, the government encouraged citizens to carry firearms under the law. That has been an effective deterrent.
After terrorists murdered 67 people at a mall in Kenya in 2013, Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble said in an interview, “You have to ask yourself, ‘Is an armed citizenry more necessary now than it was in the past with an evolving threat of terrorism?’
In my view, the clear answer is yes.
Robert A. Lovingood is vice chair of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, representing the First District, which includes all of the Victor Valley and parts of the Barstow area.

I am glad that they are at least addressing the issue and proposing feasible solutions.
Most elected officials seem to be burying their collective heads in the sand.

That says it right there. If regular citizens die due to violence politicians can pass more laws restricting rights. If county or state employees die it's a liability and they know lawsuits will be filed by surviving family members.
