The worst case happened. You had to produce and fire your weapon. The prudent thing to do is have an attorney represent your interest when describing and discussing the events. Is there a "shooting insurance" option that is worthwhile and will save you from bankruptcy? If so, which? If not, then who do you call for legal representation?

ETA I'm asking for research to be knowledgeable in the future, not for any actual incident.

Best recommendation? Start googling 'criminal defense attorneys' in your area right now. Look at every hit you get. Spend a lot of time reading their websites and see what each one has to say about 'gun violations.'. Narrow down your list of the one's that appeal to you, then call them....each and every one, and determine if what they say fits your needs/wants.

Do your homework. There is no easy answer, for sure. I spent many hours researching & days interviewing potential attorneys to represent me, if in the event I would ever need them. I found one that I'm confident in representing me if the need ever arises.

There is no golden parachute. Easy question to ask.....most difficult question to answer. I wish you well.

There are several programs, some of which are pre-paid legal, some of which are insurance, and I've seen some which combine some aspects of both. All different prices. I don't endorse any of them, so do your homework and see which fits your needs and budget the best.

I have a nephew who is an attorney. He was also a cop, then an assistant DA before entering private practice. I have him on "family" retainer. :)
