Add another to the fold

When I first met my co-worker and he found out I liked guns, he would often say things about me going postal, etc. He had never shot a gun before and had no positive feelings about them at all, only fear.

Flash forward a year or so and we had many chats at work and he started warming up the idea. I offered to take him to the range many times, but it never happened.

Last week he went on vacation and his wife's dad got him to the range. He shot and said it was the best part of the trip and has to get a gun now. Today for lunch I took him to Collector's Firearms and we did a little preliminary shopping. He was like a kid in a candy shop (what a turn around huh?).

He had shot a revolver on vacation and so we looked at revolvers, specifically a Ruger GP100. He liked it a lot, however, $379 + tax was more than he had to spend since he would also have to buy a safe (small child) and training.

Any suggestions for other reliable revolvers I can steer him towards? Any suggestions where I can find him a good deal?

Keep your eyes on the classifieds on Glocktalk.com. I've seen some really amazing local deals there.
For a good buy on a small safe check out Academy and Walmart. Yep, walmart sells safes.
As far as training goes, that should be free from his friend. aka YOU.

Good work Ghentry. Bring your friend to the TexasCHLforum Day at PSC. We'll have instructors there doing some coaching. Heck, I hope to do some myself. It'll also be an opportunity for him to get a look at various types of pistol shooting, IDPA, IPSC, steel plates, Texas Star, etc.

Regards,
Chas.

You might look for an older Ruger Security/Service/Speed Six. They are tough as nails and can usually be found in good used condition for $250 or less. I have two and they are great revolvers.

I agree with Chas...Don't let him (and his wife) wiggle free of that weekend...She needs to be in on the particulars as well...

Just a thought...

Unfortunately I have a prior commitment that weekend I can't get out of so I'm going to have to miss it. I was looking forward to it too. :(

KY Imports usually has Ruger revolvers on sale for a good price.
