A friend of my sons recently inherited this revolver. I have not seen the gun yet. He says the finish is in bad shape, and the only markings he can find on it say Remington. Is this picture enough to help anyone identify the model, maybe the year range? I think it's an 1858, but not sure. He's not looking to sell it because it was his grandfather's. But, he would like some kind of an estimate on the value, and what model it actually is.

Looks to be a Remington 1858 New Army style of pistol.

No info help here, but if it is as old as it looks, I would love to hear some of it's history.

It appears to be a "" Remington Rider "New Model" Double Action Percussion Belt Revolver"". Should be a .36 caliber.

Yes, the Rider, DA. Army was .44, Navy .36, and this one, Rider, .36 cal. The identifier most is that the screws enter from right side of frame, while Army and Navy from left side. Shot plenty of Colt percussion, but never owned a Remington.
