Only one response to this story (so far) and, of course, it's full of doom and gloom. This is about a guy that's going to do a limited run of .380s that are like Transformer cellphones:

What do y'all think?

If it does make it to production, I suspect I shall purchase one. I like options... and transformers

It is certainly a novelty, but that's where it ends....a novelty. I
might consider one, but only for speculation in hopes that it will become a collector's item, and it would over time increase in value. I'd be surprised if they sold more that 1,000 of them. At $395.00 it might be worth something someday after my great grandson is a grandfather.
As a serious self-defense gun, it would be a gross understatement to say it's an absurd idea. To slow to deploy, and it holds only 2 rounds of .380.
I think it's a silly idea.

Yeah I saw this on the news this morning and was not impressed by the fact that you have to "transform" it before using it, not something I would want as my only line of defense. Too slow to get into action if you need it. I guess there is a novelty factor, and maybe as a BUG, but I think for that kind of money I could get something with more bang for the buck.JMHO

I thought that these were illegal weapons by federal law unless registered with NFA.

Since the grip is perpendicular to the bore and the grip has to be unfolded to fire, it's a title I pistol. If it didn't, it would be an AOW. Whether it's disguised or not when it's not in firing mode doesn't matter.

Thanks!

I'd rather have a PP-90M.

Im interested in one.
Just because it looks like a cell phone i assume you need a holster to open carry it? Would a cell phone holder qualify?

A belt clip probably doesn't count as a holster.

It looks like it comes with one, from the pictures I've seen, so I would think that would qualify as a belt holster.
That said, why would anyone want one of these, except as a novelty? It's a $400 derringer that looks like it came out of a gumball machine. There are just so many far superior self-defense weapons that can be had for the same price. I paid $400 for my S&W M&P Shield. Too bulky? You can get a Ruger LCP for $250 or less. I'm just not seeing the draw.
Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not trying to bash anybody for how they choose to spend their money. I just don't see what the big deal is about these guns.
ETA: Upon closer inspection, it appears the belt clip may be permanently attached to the gun, not part of a separate holster. So that would make it illegal to carry openly in Texas.

The only thing I've heard about a "bid deal" was a guy I know is an officer over in Fort Worth. Someone linked it to him on facebook saying something along the lines of be careful out there. I am not a super news person, but haven't seen any kind of stories about it so far.

That is quite ingenious. I will have to try one of those out.
As for the cellphone gun, as stated above, might get one for the novelty of it but as for actual use, it would have to be one heck of an easy deployment for me to consider actual use.
