Ok my pocket carry gear came in: Taurus m85ssul and desantis nemisis. I carry my knife clipped in my right pocket bu now its getting crowded. I can draw but puting back in and I clink the knife.

did you switch pockets for you knife? or even move wallet and keys around?

When I pocket carry there is nothing in my front right lpocket but the pistol. I long time ago moved my wallet to the left side. knife is clipped in my back right pocket.

LT you know I was going to post about your picture and you having showing just that. I have been carrying since it came in yesterday and I realized today the knife and pc are too much for one side of my shorts. Knife on opposite side works out to better weight distrubution.

I don't really want to switch wallet pockets but I am still experimenting.

The experamenting is the key.
You will try something & in 2 minutes say no way that aint gonna work.
Something else & OOOOOOOOOhhh, I like that.

Most of the time though it will be try it & wear it that way for a WHILE before deciding.

Keep trying different things until you find what you like.

I carry my P3AT in my WEAK side pocket that way keys, change, knife, etc. are still where they always were. I found it easier to retrain myself where the pocket gun is.

I am one of those fortunate individuals that shoots just as badly weak handed as strong handed so it doesn't matter what hand the gun is in.

Regardless of where you carry....be certain to do so consistently (not back pocket one time, front pocket next).

If you ever need your knife, you'll want to be able to access it quickly (no fumbling or searching).

Right on! After you choose a position, train accessing the knife and getting it into action from different positions..... sitting, laying on your back, standing, etc... Then you can see the advantages and disadvantages of your carry location. This is a vital self-test and a chance to re-evaluate your choice.

I like it to be somewhere in the front. There's less joint articulation on the drawstroke.

That being said, I am a HUGE fan of the small fixed blade knife for self defense. It's simple and robust. There's just gross motor skills to get it into action.

Another idea is switching gun and knife, when I pocket carry I could IWB my knife.

Man I have it hard. I'm going to have to make some big adjustments when I start to carry next month.

I have my personal cell phone (Moto Razr) and my work phone (Palm Treo = big and bulky). Then I have my Keys, and my knife.

Very true about not changing which pocket you keep your knife in. Some people that will notice this, and wonder what is going on.
That is why I carry more then one, so that I always have one that I can get to no matter what position I am in.
I too think that the small fixed blades are great. I have one on my key chain. Since my keys are in my hand when I walk to the car then I have it at the ready.

Some thoughts,

+1 on keeping ONLY the gun in the pocket if you pocket carry (and preferably keep it in a pocket holster). People have shot themselves pulling other stuff out of their pockets that got caught in the trigger. Very embarrassing. Plus all that stuff can get in the way of the draw.

What's your purpose for a knife? May determine where you keep it. For me, it is to carve away someone who is hanging on my gun and/or gun arm, so I keep the knife in the front pocket OPPOSITE from the gun, not on the same side.

I agree. Depends on what you expect to use a knife for.


For me, its something that I can grab quicker than the gun. If I'm jumped unexpectedly and taken to the floor.

I had this similar question with a friend of mine, and he made an interesting point. He said that he puts his knife on the "opposite" side of this gun. Therefore, if confronted unexpectedly, and one hand is occupied during the struggle, he can still reach for "something", gun or knife. I thought that reasoning made great sense. Thoughts/comments?

Therefore, when I pocket carry, I have my P3AT in my right front, and my knife (Benchmade) in my left front.

That makes alot of sense to me. I like to have more then one way to "handle" things.

Something else to think about: I read in a forum (can't remember which) about tell-tale signs of people who carry, one of which was a knife clipped to the pocket. I wonder if we should take more pains to hide that or if its a like a badge that alerts BGs. Do you think a BG would avoid you if he noticed a knife clip on your pants pocket or belt?
