Hey yall, Im struggling with a SW serial number. Im unable to find a search tool for SW serial numbers, like the search tool on Rossi's site. This is a SW Model 19-4, 4 inch blued, pinned recessed. The serial number is 52k6631.

There's another number stamped just to the left of the cylinder. It's a large F2, stamped over the top of the numbers 73078. What's that all about?

Can someone share a link, or a file, that will help me get detailed specs on this revolver? Maybe there is a search tool Im not aware of.

If it was a rattlesnake, Id already be bitten, right?

Thanks for any help yall.

The F2 thing is a little boggling to me. Ive found some references to it, but no clarity.

I'm suspicious though -

The F2 is about a number 11 in font size, and the 73078 is about a number 4 in font size. But it's definitely factory stamped into the yoke.

I have an idea that the 73078 is the actual production date. July 30, 1978. I might post picture, and am considering calling SW. Curiosity is getting me.

Do you own any model 19s?

I didn't noticed this F number on mine right away either when i got it. I was just looking it over one day and saw it. I find out what I can and repost.

I think its a date - of some kind.s

IM not a gun expert, but I own about 15 altogether, 5 of my guns are revolvers. I hear people complaining about failures and problems resulting from the fact that its a 357 mag, but after the fact they learned there are some flaws, and it's not meant for steady 357 rounds. That bothers me a little. A 357 should be able to handle all the rounds you want to feed it, if theyre gonna call it a 357.

But not everyone has that complaint, or worries about it. Ive heard from a lot of law enforcement folks that the model 19 is still their favorite service weapon. Compared to my other revolvers, I consider this to be the caddillac of my collection. Something else too, is not the el cheapo people make it out to be. I have a couple of them, no trouble at all.
