In this mornings Star Telegram there is an article on the State passing the 1 million mark for LTC.

Some statistics from the article:
1,017,618 LTC holders.
268,200 are women.
3.7% of Texas residents hold an LTC.

I LOVE this quote from the article: "I'd say those who predicted shootouts at four way stops need to apologize to the rest of us.", Jerry Patterson, former State Senator.

Way to go Texas! :cheers2:

BTW, the article was a very well written piece.

I saw that in the news this morning also. The shocking part is Florida took number 1.

All of my handgun searches on their website return Open Carry articles. If possible, could someone post a link?

Thanks,

I would guess Florida is #1 because it issues so many non-resident licenses.

So LTC is 3.7% of Texas residents statewide. I wonder what the break downs per metropolis areas are ? I saw a map posted on the forums a while back that showed break downs and the metropolises like Houston and Dallas/Ft Worth were dark red rings around the inner city indicating they were higher % population.

I have had a Florida permit for some years, and as I recall, it is somewhat cheaper and quite a bit easier to get.

Many of us with CA permits got Utah and Florida permits as this combination gave us best coverage, as CA permits weren't recognized elsewhere in the past.

That's exactly right. Florida was one of the first states to issue nonresident licenses. I had one for political reasons while we were working to pass concealed-carry in Texas.

Houston's KHOU Ch. 11 TV reported it on the 10:00pm news last night. It's amazing how often the media get something wrong in a "gun" report. They said changes that went into effect on Jan. 1, 2016 make it easier to get a License to Carry. :banghead: That was done in 2013.

Texas ladies now hold 27% of the LTC's. I like it.

Indeed, this is very good news. Women are a fast-growing segment of new gun owners as well as licensees. I bet the percentage for 2016 will end up even higher, based upon the number of women in my LTC classes and in other instructors' classes. Cluba/organizations like A Girl and a Gun League and the NRA's creation of programs and activities specifically for women are helping, but I believe the primary motivation is self-defense.
