I currently carry a Ruger GP100 series and after a recent incident I was involved in I have been rethinking the need for extra ammo. I have seen the speed loaders and the pouches for the loaders. They just seem big and bulky to me. I am currently trying to locate or have made a belt to carry extra ammo similar to a cartridge belt. Anybody have an idea who makes this, whether it's a full belt or a slide? I carry the revolver in a Galco high rise holster with an 1.25 inch belt. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have any input to give on your question, but have you considered speed strips? Faster than loading individual rounds as you can load 2 rounds at once, and not have to pull the next round out of cartridge belt as the speed strip is already in your hand.

Have you considered a semi auto?

Most holster makers have several products as you describe. There is also the old fashioned 'dump pouch" that police used before speed loaders.
Use nickel plated brass. Leather will quickly corrode yellow brass.

Carry speed strip(s) in your pocket or on belt... They are narrow and a good alternative to bulky speedloaders, although a bit slower.

I switch between several different firearms. Just depends on the mood I'm in. With my semi autos I carry extra magazines. And often a backup firearm. But I recently purchased the revolver and am now looking for ways to carry extra ammo for it.

I carry a speedloader in my right pocket, and a speed strip (or two) in my left (I'm right handed, carrying a J-frame).

I also have the Bianchi speedloader holders that are designed for the shoulder rig. I don't remember the exact model number, but they split the speedloader on the belt, then wrap around the entire package. They end up looking a lot like a Zippo pouch on the belt, but it makes it less obvious what you've got on your belt.

I've reloaded from the pouch in a BUG match in the past, and it works reasonably well. I find there's plenty of advantages to having the speedstrips too.

Keep in mind that reloading a revolver, whether with a speed loader, speed strip, dump pouch, or loose rounds is a FINE motor skill...something that goes away quickly when the adrenaline hits. Speed loaders require less fine motor skill than strips, and strips far less than single rounds.

And I keep the speed loader(s) at my right hand rather than my support hand...at least I do after the time I tried to jam a speedloader into the butt of a revolver in an IDPA match once upon a time. (lesson learned!)

I do not have any easy answers. I suggest looking at the real pros for answers.

Every once in awhile I like to carry my GP 100, usually when I am up in the New Mexico mountains. I carry in a holster from Black Hills Leather with two of their cartridge slides like these. It gives me twelve extra rounds for piece of mind.

- worked great but you have to practice a little with it. Also used the snap strip but found they tended to get lost in my pockets.

When I carry a revolver I carry one HKS in my watch pocket, and a couple of speed strips in the left front pocket.

I use the Bianchi Speed Strips.

I have been giving this a lot of thought because I am a revolver guy and because campus carry is sort of a revolution in my carry habits.

I am inclined towards at least a New York reload, and maybe a New Jersey reload to boot (literally, in an ankle holster). In the past I have occasionally carried two revolvers at the same time (pocket, shoulder). I pocket carry the snub .357 DAO, and shoulder holster carry the 3" .357 DA/SA. The latter is slower to retrieve, but allows for single action fire with a slightly longer sight radius (that's my answer to the Paris and Brussels attacks).

Lately I've been testing Galco ankle gloves on both ankles. The ankle and shoulder holsters are all a good fit because 1) I require (or will require circa Aug. 1) deep concealment at work, wearing business casual attire, and 2) I am sitting for most of my work day (in a car, or in an office). I wouldn't think of doing this if I was on my feet all day.

On Monday Aug. 1/Campus Carry Day I am going to wear four revolvers, just for ceremonial grins. That would be a New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania reload. I could even throw in an NAA pug in my other pocket. I guess that would be a Rhode Island reload.

I second speed strips or quick strips. They organize your reolver ammo into compact rows. They are not as fast as a speed loader, but, imo, better than loose ammo in a pocket.

I can eaisly carry two speed strips in my pocket because of their thin profile. I don't like the bulk of speed loaders or mag pouches, so I tend to favor compact ammo carry methods.
