More Ammo Price Increases coming

Today, I talked to a friend of mine who works at Gander Mountain in the Firearms Department. He said he has seen some internal memos relating to a "significant" ammo price increase after the 1st of September. Grab your wallets, Gentlemen!

I was in Wally World in Lewsiville yesterday stocking up on drinks for upcoming hunter ed. season and went ahead and popped for some more 9mm white box and 38s. With tax, just over $100 for 300 rounds of 9 and 150 of 38...
Gotta requalify in early August at DPS skul and it's probably gonna take a little trigger time before then to try to ace the shooting part with quasi-mouse guns ... The only real "bargain" I saw behind the locked ammo case was .45 Blaser Brass at $9.45 - which probably won't last long ...

I almost equate this issue with "oil futures"...Everytime there is a hiccup somewhere the prices at the pump go up pretty fast, but are slower than molasses in wintertime coming down...
Same thing with the ammo market now...If you have a sizable conflict going on somewhere, raw materials are in high demand, etc etc...
Now that this OSHA regulatory deal is in the works...Combine the threat of this deal, and thats about all it took to create such unstable fluctuations in the prices...
I kinda hope "Roy D. Mercer" has a few more stashes of .45 that are stamped a bit more recent than the 50's vintage he talked about...

I believe it was on 6/8/07 (or somewhere around there), ATK-Federal/CCI issued a press release saying that on 9/1/07, there would be a 15% increase on all ammo and a 25% increase on "premium" .223 ammo. They said they expect the rest of the industry to follow suit. I would presume if the price of their ammo is going to increase, so will the cost of the components.
Since then and on top of that, we are now facing OSHA trying to get even more restrictions on ammo and components. The proposed changes will not only affect ammo manufacturers, it will affect any company that deals with ammo or components, whether it be wholesale, retail, or transportation.
The tough part in dealing with OSHA is that they don't have to try to pass a law, they can set a new standard or requirement because it deals with "Worker Safety" and companies either have to meet these requirements, face huge fines for being out of compliance, or stop dealing with the particular item (in this case ammo/gunpowder/primers).
