Looks like the City of Marble Falls has not only recognized the signs at MayFest were invalid, but they even shared the information with the Chamber and the Press. Kudos for not only recognizing the problem, but also making it publicly known.

I never got a response letter from them - I just got an email today from a family member with a link to the story.
Glad to see some action taking place and it looks like all the necessary people have been informed.
I even got a compliment on the letter
Just a reminder folks - make your concerns about invalid signs heard!

Great job!!
I know we as LTC holders do our best to stay informed on the laws regarding carry regulations, we have to realize that others don't, even those in positions of authority. It's good to see that even though mistakes have occurred they are trying to rectify them.
We have to be ever vigilant and, at the same time understand that sometimes signs are posted out of misconceptions, rather than divisive intent.

That's a good outcome.
It's obvious what Ms. Swinney, the author of the article thinks about the signs. They are not "illegal." They are illegal.

you beat me to it
I just got my Email from the Newspaper:
The Picayune <
news@thepicayune.com>
'No gun' signs at MayFest lead to complaint and staff training on open/concealed carry laws
“They were advised by their security firm to do that, but they didn’t consult with the city,” he said. “We’ve had subsequent meetings and got some education going both on the part of our city staff, the chamber and other users.”
City leaders also updated internal policy to include a portion of the statute with applications for use of city-owned facilities.
Exceptions include events that derive more than 51 percent of their revenue from alcohol sales as well as city hall facilities that house a municipal court.
Chamber Executive Director Patti Zinsmeyer said the organization received direction on how to proceed for future events.
“We understand that no matter what, if it’s a public place such as a park or a city-owned place that we’re using for our festivals, we will not be able to display (the restriction) notices,” she said.
.....
“We have, from what I understand, posted those signs at the beer booth at events. We will not be posting those signs period,” she said. “When we meet with the new owner (of the private security firm), we’ll make sure they understand the law, and if they have any questions, they can talk to the chief of police.”

Bravo! Job well done!
I find it rather ironic that a private "security firm" did not know the law concerning handguns. They should not be hired again.

I love how they said the law is new. The law isn't new. Penalties associated with violating the law are new.

Sounds like either a misquote or that the education process is not quite complete!

Correct, the >>>
education process is not quite complete!
(Marble Fall is in the County of Burnet) and
I believe the entire Marble Falls City hall >>> Marble Falls office of the
Texas Department of Public Safety and some
other city offices housed in the building containing the Municipal Court are posted off limits to CHL/LTC
Also, the
County of Burnet , and the
CITY of Burnet (County Seat of Burnet County)
still needs educating
Texas Department of Public Safety in Burnet, Burnet County Tax Assessor/Collector etc are all "off limits" as they are
being housed in space rented in the Burnet County Courthouse Annex with Metal Detectors
City of Burnet Municipal building where utility bills are paid is "considered" off limits because they house the Municipal Court, (though I've not seen any sign there, but have not gone in and pay by automatic withdrawal for years after being advised about 10 years ago they considered it off limits by
former City and County Attorneys)
education process is not quite complete!
They need educating on the Attorney General Opinions about posting only the Court and offices utilized by the Court (Jury Selection rooms etc etc) without posting an entire building containing State/County/City offices which are not off limits.

Well, I'll agree with you about the LTC holders on this forum. I run into LTC holders quite often who obviously haven't updated themselves on the laws in years. Couple of months ago I found out that a LTC holder member of our church told the deacons that we didn't have to post 30.07 because churches were off limits anyways. My old boss was notorious for this.
It's an education process that too may drop out of unfortunately.

City Hall and the county Annex are in the hands of the AG...I reported it 2 months ago. You should report Burnet if you haven't already.

Thanks for reporting the County Annex
The
City of Burnet Municipal Building/offices which share a roof with Burnet Municipal Court have never been posted with any sign at all, so there's nothing to report there, and the former City or County Attorney who advised in a phone call that it was his opinion that it was off limits in 2008 because the Court's Ticket Cashier to pay is only feet away from the Utility Bill cashier, but on the opposite side of the foyer, isn't the Attorney now I don't think. Still I have no reason to enter there anymore since it drafts my bank for utilities now.

Congratulations! The only thing that would have made that article better was for them to explain what it takes for a person to become a LTC holder. It might have cut out some of the anti-gun garbage that is sure to follow. I guess that would be asking too much.
