I have a need to be advised

I currently own a reliable AK variant rifle - in 5.45. I am considering putting some type of red dot sight on it - will have to get a different buttstock so I can put riser's on it to effectively fire it with a cheek weld - probably an RS regulate or Midwest Industries lightweight rail with a Vortex strikefire - But I am also wanting to get a decent reliably accurate rifle that doubles as a fighting rifle if necessary - so I will probably build an AR 15 and put a Nikon 223 scope on it.
Is this a plan that would work and if you do think it is a bad idea - recomendations on a different set up?
Also - I currently have a M&P45 that I shoot well but I traded my Beretta M9 off for a shotgun recently (nice 16 ga O/U) and I currently have magazines and holsters and I am considering getting another 9mm - trying to decide between a Beretta and a Sig P320 - which my wife has and we are both left handed and we have holsters and mags for it too - I like the DA/SA of the Beretta but the P320 has the nicest trigger of a striker fired gun I have ever shot?
So go back to tried and true 80s technology with a Beretta 9mm or get the Sig P320 Carry in 9mm?
