Laugh all you want about safes that can be disassembled...

But having had to take down and move my safes four times in the last 8 years, I'm quite thankful for this feature!
These kind of safes aren't for everybody, but they have suited my business and home needs very well. Best part: I don't need to hire a moving crew to get this from one place to the next. The door section is about 200lbs, which can be handled by my wife and I will the assistance of a dolly and some leverage.

It's a Dakota Interloc XL safe. You can still find them being sold, but I think Dakota safes moved away from manufacturing them anymore.

Those are nice, but I agree, that safe door is really small :(

I've moved my safe a few times now and it wasn't fun. It weighs about 700# and it doesn't come apart. After a little trial and error I found a couple of things that make it possible for my wife and I to move it.
The first thing was one of those gimmic slider movers they advertise on tv. We bought them to help with furniture but 4 of those under the safe and we can slide it on concrete, wood, etc. The other thing was those moving dollys with 4 wheels used to move pianos and such. Just tilt the safe one direction and slide one under that side and do the same in the other direction. You now have 8 wheels that will roll on most surfaces. The only thing missing is a way to get up and down steps. I haven't figured that one out yet.

It's a furniture dolly. You can rent them for $7 from UHaul, or buy them for about $20 from UHaul or other places. Amazon probably sells them.
The best way I heard of to "move" a safe was to sell the old safe with the old house and buy a new one for the new house.

I bought mine for $11 at Harbor Freight. I have the small ones.

Alternative - Rol-A-Lift
http://www.rolalift.com/ I bet you can rent them.
I have a smaller pair of these, shop-made. I honestly had not thought of using them for a safe.
It doesn't do stairs though.
