Thanks for posting. I had a panhandler sneak up on me recently in a very busy, fairly high density corner gas station. I had noticed him initially but had incorrectly discounted him as just another customer and made the mistake of turning my back on him.

He was a very large guy who made it into my personal space pretty quickly but luckily was completely non-threatening. My EDC was in my briefcase inside the car, having just left the office, and car doors were all locked as has become my practice at gas stations.

I reviewed all my mistakes several times over in my mind. The article was quite helpful in this regard.

I also plan to avoid this particular gas station in the future! Too close to the LBJ and some not so nice areas...

FYI, SouthNarc teaches his MUC material as part of his ECQC class.
