How about the Ruger Amercian pistol?

I thinking about getting one. Anyone here have experience with one...either 9mm or 45ACP? I'm curious about the one in 45ACP...it's weight compared to a 1911 of similar size...comparison of recoil, etc? I usually only carry 45ACP, but I'd consider 9mm. Thanks for any input.

I have one in 9mm. It has a nice feel to it. Heavier than a Glock, but a more narrow grip. Recoil management is good. It's a really nice gun for the price point. There's lots of manufacturers competing in this price point area though. Go find a range that rents one and try it out (Ruger has set up a VERY aggressive range rental program right now, so most places will carry it). If you like shooting it, ask the range people what they think. Sometimes the nuances come out after the kind of heavy usage that pistols get at ranges that rent (which is what Ruger is betting on -- they're very confident this one will be a pack leader).

Overall, I like the gun. My Glocks are still my main carry guns, but I like these too.
