I technically still own my Glock 19 but it's not mine anymore. My fiancé decided that she was going to take it as her own. Which actually is fine with me! We have been dating almost five years and will be getting married in October and it's taken this long to get her to shoot a guns. It's not that she didn't like guns she actually is a second amendment supporter but there was a tragic event in her family involving a firearm so she was just scared of them mainly the noise. So I didn't push her to go shoot or try and make her I just let I happen when she wanted and few months ago I was gonna go to the range and shoot my pistols and she said can I go with you this time? Of course I was excited and said sure!!!! So I had my Glock 19 and 43 and 1911 and she wanted to shoot them. She shot the 43 first because was so small but hated how snappy it was in her hands then she shot the 1911 and didn't like the big recoil push although she said that it was better than the 43 then she picked up my 19 and said is this the one that you carry? I said yup Glock 19 can't beat it! So she shot it and shot it very well. She was knocking down bottles and punching paper and said I like this one it's mine now! So what to do??? I was out a carry gun so I sold the 43 and 1911 and bought a Glock 26 and 30 hehe! Things work out :). I wasn't a huge fan of the 43 and the 1911 was nice just not my cup of tea. I like glocks. Anyways that's how I used to own a Glock 19! I'm hoping soon she will want to take her LTC class but I'm not going to push that either! Cuz fellas we all know where pushing gets you!

Also a side note those micros are not always the best choice for women. They are often snappy and hard to shoot for a first time shooter. I recommend the Glock 19 for the gun that will do it all and my fiancé will attest to that. She has shot the shield, 43, And ruger lcr, and doesn't like the micros. She questioned why guys always try and get the women to shoot those small ones because they think that a small pistol is the best when it's not. Your limiting her to little capacity hard to shoot and snappy guns. Let her pick out the gun she likes and remind her cuz it looks pretty doesn't mean it's the right one!

My wife is the same way, the micro guns, were too hard for her to rack the slide, and felt recoil was very unpleasant. Mine likes her full size M&P 9 and I'll never try to talk her out it. It's a shame that you lost "custody" of your 19 but at least you have a happy future wife, which bodes well for you later on. You will find that a lot of things become "theirs" and it's better just to let em go.

I have always hated it when I see someone (usually men) trying to push guns on women that they think are right for them. Let the woman decide. We don't like being told what is right for us, so why do (some) men think they know what works for women?

Happy wife means you'll probably get visitation rights with the 19 at least. You chose well in letting it go.

My wife is the same way. She's stubborn tho when it comes to her gun. She has a sig pro 2340. She doesn't shoot it very well and she resists getting a similar size 9mm (sig sp2022) or Glock 19/26. Tried telling her she'd shoot 9mm much better then .40.

I think that most inexperienced shooters see a small gun and think that smaller means gentler. It doesn't long to realize that it's not the case. However, many women will choose a smaller gun because it's easier to conceal/carry. After all, if you need it for a self defense purpose, you aren't going to be shooting 50 rounds through it. And a gun that you will carry is 100% better than a gun that you won't carry.

I carry a .380 most days. I also shoot it at the range more than my other guns, because it's the one that I carry most often. That said. I much prefer to shoot my bigger guns. They are more accurate, less felt recoil, and more comfortable/ergonomic.

The worst thing about my .380 is the trigger guard/laser guard. When I pull the trigger my finger always rubs along the guard. I've learned to pull the trigger with just the point of the fingertip when I am range shooting so that it won't rub raw on my knuckle.

My wife has some arthritis in her hands so hates my little Kahr CM9, tolerates my G19 but LOVES her Ruger GP100 revolver.

My wife loves her Glock 19.

The down side of her owning it is she won't keep it on her person and only takes it when she travels without me. Then she keeps it in the car in a pack, which is adequate, then locks it up when she leaves the car to do her volunteer work or whatever...sigh...

I suspect when you get a shiny new one to replace the one you gave her she will end up with the shiny new one and you'll have your old friend back.

My wife also liked my Glock 22 more than the 27. She has not shot either the 21SF or 30SF yet to know which she prefers. She still doesn't know about the Colt Gold Cup yet. I'm afraid she might like it too much.

Sand it down maybe? I have done that to a couple of handguns...

There's no rule that says there can't be two G19s in the household.

I am guilty of trying to pick out a gun for my wife. She cannot rack the slide on my EDC and it worries me. She saw a .38 Special revolver some time ago at bass pro and loved it and since then I have been trying to push her to SA firearms with somewhat more capacity. After reading this post and many others, I will not do that anymore. When my wife is ready she will carry what makes her feel more comfortable.

There may have to be another G19 purchase in the future so I have one lol! But I'm glad she has one she will and can shoot. Some women think that the revolver is the best choice because they hear how easy it is to use. That is true but most don't realize the lack of rounds and the weight of some. Although some of the air weights are very light but that means more recoil. I'm glad she chose the SA. But I may have to go to the gun store and grab a new g19 when the new generation comes out!
