...for the Canadian Rangers.

I didn't know there were Canadian Rangers, a component of the Canadian Armed Forces.

They get this: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016 ... -end-2019/

I'm even more surprised to find out the rifle it is replacing is this:

A SMLE!

And it appears the individual Canadian Rangers may have a chance to keep their SMLEs:

You mean Canada allows firearms? Well as long as it is not the general public.

Sigh.....There are states and cities here in the US that have more restrictive laws then Canada..

Rangers are a pretty neat group ( not to be confused with park like rangers), mostly native Inuit in the far north. Until recently they used old Mk 4 no.1 en fields in .303

Can you say that about handguns? My wife attended a Statistical software seminar where she sat at a table with two RCM members. They were appalled that she owned a handgun and new how to use it. I also have a few Canadian friends......they would disagree with your premise.

Well, cops are like that the world over, used to shoot a lot of IPSC before I moved to the states

There are no issues owning handguns, yes you do have to take a short course to get a purchase card, not unlike some places here. Yes you can't carry up there , like some places here......at least the law is uniform and you don't have to worry going from provide to province and make a mistake, unlike state to state when you get stuck changing planes in NJ, or drive through NYC

As time I was up north stopped by the well stocked gun store, with lots of surplus military weapons that are federally banned here & was surprised to see SKY'S at the Canadian tire store

Old story. I probably posted this a year ago or more.

Actually, it was last November: http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic. ... 7#p1020597

I missed that, probably because I wasn't interested in scout rifles. What I was interested in was that the Canadians were still using SMLEs, at least until last year, for part of their armed forces. And that maybe the CRs will get to keep them when they are excessed.

No problem. I like scout rifles, and so I had an interest. I first heard of the Canadian purchase from TheFirearmBlog.com. They also published a January article saying that the new Canadian scout rifle would come to the U.S. market too: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016 ... l-come-us/

From what I've ever heard of the Canadian Rangers (and the great god Wiki seems to agree) they are not a Spec Ops group but more of a highly skilled border patrol. Seems like a bolt-action .308 would be good for this.

"Formally established on May 23, 1947, a primary role of this part-time force is to conduct surveillance or sovereignty patrols (SOV PATS) as required. Some Canadian Rangers also conduct inspections of the North Warning System (NWS) sites and act as guides, scouts, and subject-matter experts in such disciplines as wilderness survival when other forces (such as Army units of the Regular Force or Primary Reserve) are in their area of operations."

Sad to see the pics above of the dudes in the prone positions with those slings just dangling. Did no one every teach them they should be used for far more than just humping rifles through the bush?

Hmmm...maybe the US should consider a "highly skilled border patrol" armed with rifles to guard the wild untamed southern border.

Those new rifles of theirs sound nice, although I wouldn't want the red tinted stock- might be too easy for a blue helmeted UN soldiers to see!

The rifle is supposed to be available in the US, starting next month.

Edit: Oops! Available in Canada next month. Still no word on US availability. (That's what I get for just skimming the article.)
