I noticed not long ago that SIG had not only the 938 in 9mm, but also a model 938 in .22lr. SIG also markets a .22lr conversion kit if you have the 9mm model of the 938 and also the 226. Other than SIG, I know that there are conversion kits for 1911s, CZ75 pattern guns (I think) and some Glocks. Are there others anyone is aware of?

I think it is a great idea to be able to plink/practice with the less expensive round when possible while at the same time using the exact same trigger and other controls as the carry gun. From this perspective, either the gun manufacturers or the aftermarket might have an opportunity to step up with conversions for other popular guns (S&W Shield, Walther PPS, Kahr CM/PM series to name a few).

I have a Kimber branded Ciener .22 conversion for my 1911. Mine works well, but they can be finicky on the ammo and cycling if they are dirty. It is a good way to cheaply shoot your other firearm frame, but if you are just looking at a plinking gun, your money is better spent buying a stand-alone gun like a Ruger 22/45 or Browning Buckmark.

I've thought about a conversion kit for a couple of my pistols, but with the price of .22 being what it is, it's almost cheaper to shoot bulk commercial 9mm, and then save the brass for reloading.

I've been very happy with the CZ kit. It feels and works like the gun was made as a .22.

I like for teaching - you can start someone new with a 22 (and a great 1911 trigger) and move them up to centerfire (say a 9mm 1911) with no change in grip or controls.

What you describe is one of the reasons I started the thread. I have experience with a few different dedicated .22 handguns, including a SIG 1911-22 and an M&P .22, as well as Ruger MkII and MkIIIs, and several others. Each of these has value for one purpose or another. The ability to convert a larger caliber gun to a sub-caliber provides the benefit of using the exact same controls and trigger. To me, it'd be a great tool between dry fire and full-caliber loads for folks that are recoil sensitive or who have developed poor trigger control related to recoil.

In short, I think what SIG has done with the conversion kits for the 938 and the 226 (as well as the 1911 and CZ conversions) are a great idea, and I'd hope other manufacturers or the aftermarket would follow up with conversions to other popular platforms.

well, there is a conversion for Glocks (Advantage Arms?) and at one point I believe there was one for Browning Hi Powers.
