Drew my weapon for the first time

Going out of my garage this morning with my bicycle a pitbull 2 houses down spotted me and immediately came towards me. Earlier my wife said there were 3 pitbulls in the front yard. I put my bicycle between me and the dog and drew my weapon, I told it to go home a few times, it was only about 3 feet away. It finally went back home. Our new neighbors have only been in the house about a month and I knew they had pitbulls, in fact I stopped riding my bike in that direction when I found out they had the dogs. A neighbor came home on the other side of that house and the dog's ran towards her, she stayed in her car. Another neighbor across the way was in his driveway watching and was on his cellphone. I went back in and called 911, about a half hour later a deputy pulled up in front of my house and the dog came towards him, he got out his baton to keep the dog at bay. The dog wasn't backing down, neither was the deputy. Finally the dog retreated after the deputy shined his flashlight in the dogs face. Deputy told me to go back in the house and he pulled his car in front of the neighbors house and sounded his horn until someone came out. Another deputy and animal control arrived, the neighbor put the dogs in the house. Don't know if she got a ticket or a warning. I always carry when going out the front door, especially when I cross the street to check the mail. My wife is afraid to garden in the front now. Don't know why people love those dogs and are willing to defend them, this dog was not friendly at all.

The breed of dog is not the issue at all. The issue is the owner's failure to confine them.

Those owners are going to end up with a dead dog, or a huge lawsuit, if they insist on continuing their negligent behavior.
One piece of good news for you is that there is now a record of the negligence which will help you if you should ever need to defend yourself or your family from the dogs in the future. Still a bad situation to be in, though.

Glad no one was injured, there were some dogs running loose near my home a few months ago, and a female jogger was bitten by one of them, a pitbull mix. If the owner wasn't ticketed, she should have been. I would make the same phone call anytime I saw the dogs off of the owner's property, running loose. As much as I love dogs, I would not hesitate to dispatch one, if I, or my family were attacked. People who let their dogs run loose are not deserving to own them.JMHO

It is sad to see the dog's owners act so negligently. A dog that is not properly contained is a danger to both the community and to itself. Even if the dog were perfectly friendly, it is bound to get hit by a car sooner or later. Hopefully the deputy wrote them a ticket and they will build more appropriate accommodations for their pet.

In defense of the owner I believe the dogs simply got out of the fenced backyard, I hope they sure up the fence so it doesn't happen again. I notified our HOA and they are sending a letter.

Get some fox 5.3 to deter them.
