Being officially among the elderly I have been informed via an application mailed to my house I am eligible to vote by mail. The tear off application is completed with my information including my voter's registration number and just needs my signature and a stamp. I of course am not dead, so you may be asking yourself the reason for the subject line of my post. My mother in law who has been dead for several years, death certificate filed, her will legally probated also received the same application. To be fair this was sent by a candidate and not the county clerk, but it makes it all the more worrisome that a candidates will be sending vote by mail applications to many deceased voters and that no one will be the wiser if an unscrupulous person should send it in and vote. LBJ would be so proud.

So who will you MIL vote for?

LBJ could definitely bring in the votes, even if he had to "transport" the ballot boxes himself.

What party did the candidate belong to? Just out of curiosity.

Why are candidates sending out ballots? Other than the obvious. But again the question, can I receive ballots then send them to whom ever I want???

Can you pronounce voter fraud???

So the republicans finally decide to stop ignoring the dead. Since they are no longer ignoring to the zombie voters they may have a chance.

I'm not deceased but did receive something in the mail saying I qualified to vote by mail. I tore it up and was wondering how this came about.

I assume that what was mailed out was a registration for a mail in ballot, and that one would have to fill out the registration form and send it to the county office. Then the county office would send the ballot. I would assume that if the OP tried to apply for the mail-in ballot that the county would deny the request because they would have on record that the MIL is deceased... hopefully.

To erase confusion and for the record it was an application not a ballot. The completed application, addressed to the Harris County Clerk needed only my signature and a stamp. The clerk would then send the ballot to the applicant. I have no way of knowing if the clerk checks against vital statistics base for validity of the voter's name. Obviously I won't send my deceased MIL's app to find out.

Mail in ballots aren't abused.
