A new Ruger

I have been a fan of 1911s for many years. A while back I thought I'd give the striker-fire type gun a whirl. Now, I know looks ain't everything, but hey, if I'm gonna spend money on something I don't want it to make me cringe every time I look at it. After browsing the styles on the web I found that the Ruger SR series didn't look too bad. I came to where I would seriously try the SR45 (45ACP.) I wanted to handle one before I bought it. Me and Mrs went to Abilene and I dropped her off at her shoppin' spot. I went to a couple gun shops...and called a couple of more. I couldn't find anyone who had it in stock. But I did find the SR9...same model but in 9mm. Though I'm partial to 45ACP I did think about it. It felt good in the hand. I stopped in at Academy and they had the 9e version...basically an SR9 but with a tiny amount of differences. They also had it on sale for $329. I looked at it...then picked up the wife and took her to another shopping spot. I sat in the car...shopped around on my phone...though about it...then I texted her and told I was going back to Academy. I bought the 9e and a box ammo...got out for around $380.

I only had time to put one mag through it...17 rounds. It felt and fired good. Accurate.
I typically carry the Remington 1911 Carry Commander. I thought I'd compare the two.

Though the Ruger is technically longer than the Commander, if you figure in the beavertail it isn't...it's about the same length. The slide is only a tiny bit wider, and the grip is about the same. The Ruger is lighter, which also felt nice. The striker-fire trigger was easy to use. The only thing I didn't care for was how the thumb safety felt...sort of flat and awkward to find...but I reckon with practice you can adjust to it.

I had been eyeing the 9c before I got my Taurus 809. I still want one, just cuz. I'm glad you like it -- been to the range yet or just dry firing? I'm interested to hear how accurate it is for you. That price seems to be pretty normal for that pistol and its right there just a tad over the impulse purchase level.

Mine's not the C model...but the E. I did have a chance to put a few rounds through it...nice...accurate.
The price was excellent compared to the local gun stores I had contacted.
I also had a chance to look at and hold the Ruger American...a bit to bulky and boxy for me.

A buddy of mine bought the 9E a couple months ago and it's his favorite right now.
