Value of S&W Model 10?

My dad passed away in March of this year from colon cancer, and while we were going through his closet, we ran across two of my dad's pistols from when he used to be a pharmacist in Gary, Indiana in the late 70's and early 80's.

My dad wasn't really a huge gun collector. These were the only two real guns he owned. One was a blued 4 inch barrel Model 10, the other was a Colt Trooper Mark III .357 Magnum.

I had no idea he even had the Model 10, as I had only heard about the .357 because I remember my mom telling me a story about him being robbed and asked to provide drugs for a messed up druggie (this is what spurred him to purchase the Model 10 and then the Colt). Hell, I thought the Model 10 was from my grandpa.

Anyway, I did some research on the serial number and it is a 2D type serial number putting it at a 1978 manufacturing date which makes sense. I can post pictures of the gun, but I'm just looking to get some general idea of how much I should ask for it?

I know these pistols are super common, but this thing I don't think has been shot more than 25 times (and I'm counting the couple of cylinders full I shot downrange) and it is in near perfect condition. Like I mentioned, I think it was shot a few times, and then hid in a soft gun case for the remainder of it's life. I cleaned it and lubed it up and took it to the range. It worked flawlessly and is a great little shooter, but I have no need for it and I'm keeping the Colt for sentimental reasons instead. The only issue I saw with it was the ejector on the cylinder doesn't allow a smooth load into the gun. It hangs up slightly, but after shooting a few rounds it heats up and goes in just fine.

I told my buddy I would let him have it for $400 (giving him the friend discount), and I have the peace of mind knowing where the gun goes and can maintain visitation rights. He's a close friend of mine.

I'm checking to see what a 1978 S&W Model 10 goes for these days? I've done a few searches and think about $500 is fair online. I even have the original parts disassembly manual and "suggested ammunition" pamphlet that came with the gun, but that's it. No case.

Tried to do a search on the board, but as you can imagine, searching for "model" comes up with tons of pages of results.

A good start is to go to Gunbroker, find an identical revolver and see what it sold for. Most of the time that will give you an accurate value.
