So you got a version of the somewhat controversial SIG SAB for yours, as well. I promise I will never use mine as an SBR. Never ever.
The one range visit I had with mine so far showed me that it does put out an impressive fireball. At contact distance, that alone might flash-burn about a two-foot diameter. Bad guy wouldn't be happy about taking a 2,300 fps round
and being set on fire at the same time. Presents a definite issue for the shooter in low- or no-light conditions, though. Not a huge amount more than a 16" AR, but it's a bigger flash and closer to your eyes.
And it's also loud. As you noted, not ridiculously so, but louder than an AR rifle and most handguns. TAM's suppressed .300 Blackout SBR would be the better choice, but I didn't want to add a new caliber to the mix and I didn't want to go through the red tape of an SBR permit. I have a bunch of 5.56 magazines and I add ammo to that collection when I can. Even though I can't suppress it, I still prefer the 5.56 for that reason.
Also as you noted, it's surprisingly shootable. Not using the SAB as an SBR stock, of course. Even at a private range, I would never do that. Even one-handed using the forearm brace I can fire multiple-round bursts at 25 yards with good accuracy. And the little guy never failed to cycle in it's single outing, so far, with just under 200 rounds of mixed ammo. Signs point to "yes."
The Millet RDS is small, has a 5 MOA dot, and I have it mounted just forward of the ejection port. It works well and adds virtually no weight, but it's a little slower in target acquisition than I'd like. I could mount it farther to the rear, which would help, but I'd rather not. We'll see. Two other options: move one of my EOTechs to the gun (significantly heavier) and/or look at a laser like a TLR 4. I've never bothered with trying a laser on any firearm, but this may be the one. Again, we'll see.
I've ordered some Hornady 5.56 75 grain HD SBR Black--
http://www.hornady.com/store/5.56-NATO- ... SBR-Black/; not the cheapest stuff on the block--and will try it next range outing. If it shoots as expected, that's probably what I'll charge the little guy with. It's supposed to reduce both muzzle flash and sound without sacrificing muzzle velocity.
I thought briefly about trying to modify a nylon drop-leg holster for it; it is a pistol, after all. But that thought was very brief: not only impractical, but seemed lumped with the idea of carrying an LTC badge.

I am considering the notion of a single-point sling for it, though. No immediately apparent options for attachment so that, too, will need further consideration. The other plus is that it measures exactly 22 7/8 inches stem to stern. For carry, it'll drop into a variety of small bags that I have.
Oh, and BTW, I'm not an FDE guy, but I like the idea of this lower being visibly and clearly different from the ones that can be matched with a rifle upper. No possible confusion.
This is the closest thing I've come to a firearm impulse buy in a couple of decades. So far, no buyer's remorse. Fun to shoot, probably will serve a purpose. And it just looks gnarly.
