On a whim I decided to visit Dealey Plaza to see where Kennedy was shot. (I've only been here 2 years, I should see it sometime!)

I went to the museum, and not suprisingly, it was posted 30.06.
The sign was not legal, the letters were obviously less than an inch high.
I am also wondering, who owns this property? IS it the city of Dallas? If so, that'd be another reason for the sign to be illegal.

(The fact that they don't even want me taking pictures in there made me even angrier.)

The Museum is a non-profit organization and receives no governmental funding for operating expenses.

That's better than the sign they used to have.

I got all the way up to the metal detector where they were offering locker space to people to store their cameras in, and there was an engraved 30.06 sign, about 4X6 inches.

I wasn't real polite about informing them that their signage did not comply with the law and that it was also VERY unfair to have people stand in line and pay an entry fee before informing them of 30.06.

I even ostentatiously suggested that they should reserved my place in line until I could walk the several blocks to my car to comply with their idiocy.

While they didn't actually save my place they did allow us to pass through as soon as I returned.

I told someone who was supposedly some sort of official that they really needed to change their ways and either post proper signage or recognize that they would be excluding law abiding citizens, and what were they worried about anyway.

At that point my wife was tugging at my sleeve rather insistently and we went off with our friend visiting from out of town to take the tour.

The only reason I went inside at all was that our friend from out of town desperately wanted to see the place, otherwise we would have just left.

I just left. The only reason I was taking pictures was really for my Mom was really interested. She can come with me when she visits, and I'll be ready and unarmed then. Thanks for the warning about the metal detectors. I'm the kind of contemptuous cuss that'd have gone in with my gun since the sign is invalid.

I still wonder if people who take the tour, and eventually walk down in the plaza area, looking up at the 6th floor, then over to the building where the holding jail was, then up to the grassy knoll...

They take it all in, and end up shaking their heads when they look back up to the 6th floor...Like "no way!"

You have to go down there and take an entire look at the area...

As far as going into the depository (tour) , nahhh...I'll pass...

So why didn't you continue on your way with your gun? The sign wasn't legally posted.

I think Jim mentioned they use a metal detector...
