One of the doctors my wife works for wants a gun for Christmas...

All of the employees take up a collection to get the doctors a Christmas gift every year. They have collected about $350-$400 per doctor. One of the doctors wants a lever 30.30...I told my wife, get him a Marlin 336, it's in that price range. Alas, the doctor who is hosting the Christmas party is anti-gun. He would have a cow if we gave the other doctor his rifle at the Christmas party...lol.

So, we settled on a gift card. The doctor mentioned Gander Mtn. I know Academy and Gander Mtn. are owned by the same people...will a gift card from one work at the other? Gander Mtn. is the more expensive of the two but they will price match with Academy...

I figured someone on here would know.

Call Gander Mountain and ask them.

Academy and Gander Mountain are not owned by the same company nor or they affiliated in any way. The gift cards would not be reciprocal. Academy which was owned by the Gochman family was sold to KKR, a holding company, several years ago. Gander Mountain is owned privately by the Pratt and Ericson family, though they did sell their mail order division to Cabela's in 1996. Of course Cabela's was just purchased by Bass Pro Shops. Academy will have the best price other than WalMart. He can use the price match policy at most big box stores if you give him a non proprietary gift card like MasterCard. Amex or Visa.

oh wow. Ok. I had heard they were owned by the same company. I am at work and my wife asked. I think the Gander Mtn. gift card has already been purchased. I pushed for the Marlin 336 that was on sale this last weekend that was within budget...lol.

I hope that your wife and other employees, get the same consideration from their bosses, as they are showing to them. I've never had employees go to that much effort, or expense.

They get nicer bonuses than I do at my job...lol
