Ceracote durability ????

Howdy folks I have been strongly considering and believe I will finally pull the trigger on a glock 19 in FDE that came from the factory that way and would like to know how durable that type of finish is. I have been runnin my regular old G19 (black) since last November and after the thousands of holster draws and 5k rounds its finish has come off big time in places. This does not bother me at all infact when my guns get that way I think they look cool. But how does the ceracote compare ?

Night and day different. I had an FDE Glock that I carried in a Safariland 7ts 7360. The 7ts is supposed to "not wear on the finish" as much, but mine was showing shiny metal in a few places after only a couple of trips to the ranch. I was thoroughly unimpressed. I had it recoated and sold it for a regular all black and never looked back.

I have a 16" AR with a LaRue rail that I had coated in Magpul Tan. It is getting a little marked up too... much more so than a black anodized finish would.

My SDN-6 has black cerakote on it... well, some of it is still on there...

From now on, I'm not doing any more cerakote.

Good to know. I have a Browning HP that I planned to Ceracote, guess I will just have it re-blued, or maybe Parkerized. Not sure what to do.

Ceracote is paint, baked on paint, but paint. I've done a good bit of research on this because of bare metal on my CZ75 Compact. My conclusion was to have it coated with NP3 by Robar. It's not cheap, but it's reportedly very durable and slick.

I have a Hi Power that I had Cerakoated about 8 or 10 years ago. It is not my EDC, but I do carry it and shoot it a lot. The coating has held up very well. Only signs of wear are on mating surfaces of slide rails. Outside still looks great.
As with most finishes, finding a good shop to do the work is as important as the type of finish itself.

Just had a Kimber done that I carry somewhat regularly, so I guess I'll see how long it last.

I have been spraying it for a few years now. If it is properly prepared and sprayed on heated metal it holds up pretty well. Prep is the key. It is not as tough as Robar but resists scratches better than bluing. I havent had any wear off on my 2 EDC and its been 2+ years for one of them. As previously stated it is paint though. I would only use the bake on as the air dry seems to be no better than krylon.
