Anyone have experience with these pistols? I'm looking for a cheap plinking pistol and found one on TGT - $160. For those in the know, what do you think is a reasonable price? All I know is what I found on the 'net.

We carried their firearms back when I was in the business in the 60's and 70's. They were for the most part reliable, inexpensive pistols back then. I own a Model S in .380 that is only reliable with RNFMJ ammo, though the .22's are a different animal. Which model are you looking at? The last of the F series were introduced in the late 1960's. There was a FR Sport (6") and a target model (7 or 7-1/2"; both would probably be OK for plinking. I think the FR Sport may have had adjustable sights, I know the Target model did. Star went out of business in 1983, so parts will be a problem should you need a repair. Have you considered spending a little more for a newer pistol?
edited for typo: "past" changed to "part"

It's the third version of the F series. Looks like (from markings in picture) it is a 1961 version. I'm hoping i don't have to send what the fellow is asking. It isn't original, only has 1 mag. I think I'll check it out. If I can shoot it, that will tell me a lot.
thanks.

It cost more, but I'm happy with my recently purchased Walther P22. I normally shoot a .45, so given the difference in ammunition cost, it won't take many times at the range to recover the cost of the weapon.

You're welcome. My 2009 Blue Book lists the model F (4" fixed sights) at $55-60%, $85- 70%, $95-80% $110 -90% and $140 - 95% and about $5-10 more for the FS 6" w/adjustable sights.

Thanks again. I think $160 is some high even with 7 years of inflation. Looks like one of the grips is broken, not just cracked and the bluing is maybe 20%. We'll see. I'm looking tomorrow.

Stars are good pistols. I have 6 or more of them, all keepers.
If you decide you want to sell or trade that thing drop me a PM.

4" or the equivalent. found problem with thumb safety - worn out and coming out of the frame. ordered one from numrich for $33. i still think it was a good buy. still haven't shot it.

Finally! got the firing pin and thumb safety lever replaced, cleaned up and out to the 'range' - a creek bank on my property that I can shoot into.
This is a fun plinker. shoots well and straight, ejects somewhere off the my right. I just have to make sure to count my shots because the slide doesn't lock back after the last shot. So, I have about $160 in it and I'm happy.
