Terrorism is an overloaded word.
In short, it is successful assassination of a diplomatic figure in retaliation for a religious-sect cleansing in Syria. What happened in Aleppo is war genocide. A metroplex City as big as Dallas was destroyed regardless of who was there, if you watch some videos of infants being pulled out of the rubbles after an Air Strike, you would hate all kind of wars regardless of its political intent. It is World War 3, were US (and their allies) chickened out from the fight after so many red lines were drawn in the shoreline sand using clear lipsticks.

Not to blame anyone or condemn this against that. In the name of Freedom, a million or so lives were destroyed and 5-6 millions were forced to leave their homeland. In the name of fighting terrorism, the same genocide happened.

Not an ally in the traditional western sense, but Turkey is a NATO member and we most certainly need our bases in Turkey. Turkey also has the second largest army in NATO next to the U.S.

I would not sacrifice one American life for all of the people killed in Syria. It is a tragedy and it breaks one's heart to see pictures of dead children. Doesn't mean that we "chickened" out of a fight. Not every fight is our fight.

Without getting into the U.S. involvement/fault in the Syria fiasco, there's a factor that Obama and his administration never mention. Syria is predominately Sunni Muslim, but Bashar al-Assad is Alawite as are a minority of of Syrian citizens. The Sunni want to annihilate the Alawites because they don't consider them true Muslims. The only reason the Alawites in Syria haven't suffered the same fate as the Jews in Nazi Germany is because Assad and his Alawite military leaders control the country.

When the Syrian revolt or whatever you want to call it began, Alawites were worried and with very good reason. When the U.S. announced that Obama had drawn a "red line" (apparently in disappearing ink) in Syria, Alawites started flooding into Lebanon trying to escape the coming genocide by Sunni Muslims, in the event Assad were to be overthrown. Now, because of the carnage of civil war, refuges are not only Alawite, but Sunnis as well. That's what happens when you start a civil war and are willing to kill anyone and everyone who disagrees with your position on anything. When you have the U.S. supporting the so-called rebels who are as violent as those they oppose, with Russia supporting the Syrian government, you have a formula for a humanitarian disaster. Undoubtedly war crimes were committed, but apparently by both sides with each blaming the other.

I'm sure some are wondering how, or perhaps if, a white Baptist guy from Texas knows so much about the region and the players involved. It's because of our church's outreach in the Middle East. I mean direct contact, not merely providing funding to other organizations.

But foreign politics is a mess and it is worse than diving in your backyard pig pit. I support Freedom, but not extremism, terrorism, nor barbarism. No promise should have ever been made to support the FSA or any other entities in Syria. However, the US foreign diplomacy played its weak hand and Russia and Iran called the bluff.
