Houston Parks - good news/bad news

I have been using some of the Houston city parks recently for exercise, so I read the sign posted at the entrance - one of the rules was: "No hunting or display of firearms". The bad news is that I am going to have to revise my fall-back retirement plan of living on urban pigeons. The good news is that I am good to go in the park.

I don't think city parks can post legally binding 30.06 signs, but someone here likely knows better.

VP is right, cities can't post off limits in their parks for CHLs. SB501 took care of that.

I agree with all of the above, and I think the OP does too.
But the Houston LE community, and the DA, seem to take a pretty broad view of their right to limit carry, as evidenced by their attitude on the traveling law.
So legally you can carry in that park, but if an occasion comes to test that, it may cost you to prove yourself right.

I believe that the City of Houston conceded and took down any 30.06 signs. In the parks. The sign that the OP saw was perfectly apropriate in an urban public park. It wasn't the city of Houston that challenged the traveling law, it was the county DA.
