Pocket Pro 2 Shot Timer Problem/Questions
Posted: Mon Jul 23, 2007 12:07 pm
Maybe someone can chime in about this wonderful device.
I purchased said timer about 3 weeks ago, and just got a chance to "use" it this weekend. Let me illustrate why I put quotes around "use":
"This will really help me with my shooting!", said Jim.
First Try:
Set timer delay to 'Random'. Clip onto jeans pocket. Focus on the targets (3). Press Button. "BEEEP"
*BLAM*BLAM*BLAM*RELOAD*BLAM*BLAM*BLAM*
Check timer - 0.000 (No time).
Okay, so the microphone on the timer needs to be closer to the gun, maybe? Let's try again.
Second Try:
Clip timer to front of sweaty T-Shirt. Get ready. Press Button. "BEEEP"
*BLAM*BLAM*BLAM*RELOAD*BLAM*BLAM*BLAM*
Check timer - No time.
Huh?! And that was a quick reload, too! Hmmm. Maybe this thing isn't as sensitive as I thought.
Third Try:
Set timer on stool. Ready position: Fire from crouch, placing pistol about 1 foot behind and 1 foot above timer. Breathe. Close eyes. Relax. Concentrate on the targets. Press Button.
"BEEEP"
*BLAM*BLAM*BLAM* No reload this time. I think I even missed one.
Check timer - No time.
: By now, I'm getting a little hot, and it's not just the July sun. Lest anyone think I have a silenced pistol, I assure you that the USP Compact .45 makes a pretty good boom.
Maybe it needs some motivation, I think.
Fourth Try:
Clear pistol. Concentrate on the timer. Press Button. "BEEEEP"
Hammer Timer against convenient plastic table.
"1.023","0.987","1.302" !!!!
Well, that worked. Let's try it again for real.
Fifth Try:
Load pistol. Clip to front of shirt. No concentration left at this point. Press Button. "BEEEEP"
*BLAM*BLAM*BLAM*
Check timer: "2.102","0.993","1.021" -
Let's go again!
Try Six: See try 2.
Try Seven: See try 4.

Try Eight: See try 1.

I had to unload and walk away, literally walk away from the bench.
Now, am I correct in thinking that this timer is faulty? I mean, does anyone else have to hammer their timer against a table (hand, head, whatever) to get it to work? Am I just using it incorrectly? Where do most people clip their timers when they practice?
I came -> <- this close to hanging up an inappropriate plastic target at the range that day.
