Cernan, a Captain in the U.S. Navy, left his mark on the history of exploration by flying three times in space, twice to the moon. He also holds the distinction of being the second American to walk in space and the last human to leave his footprints on the lunar surface.

"There is too much purpose, too much logic, it was just too beautiful to happen by accident," Cernan said. "There has to be somebody bigger than you and bigger than me...And I mean this in a spiritual sense, not in a religious sense, there has to be a creator of the universe who stands above the religions that we ourselves create to govern our lives."

Another great American gone, but not forgotten.
I read his book, "The Last Man on the Moon" and enjoyed it.
I will have to pull it out and read it again.

I never got to meet him, but I have a couple friends who
socialized with Cernan. By their accounts he was great
to hang out with.
