Federal HST for Short Barrels

I love the Federal HST rounds for my SD firearms. In my S&W J-Frame I have always used Speer Gold Dots for snubby. This HST appears to be made for the .38 snubby.

Just got 100 rounds for my Shield. With shipping it cost me $49.97. I think I got it for a steal considering I've seen 20 round boxes going for $25. Nothing beats the prices you can find on the old interwebs.
I ran about 20 rounds through the gun to make sure there wouldn't be any issues with FTF or FTE's. No issues to speak of.

Aguila High IQ ( I haven't seen it in years) was my favorite. Federal Hydra Shock for 45 and 9mm, Hornady critical defense became a favorite, then shot the Federal Premium HST about three years ago, and now that is my goto. I ran across a sale where the 50 round box was cheaper than some of the 20 round boxes. I stocked up and didn't look back. There is a lot of good SD ammo out there, one just has to make sure how it fires and shoots in their gun/s. Some pistols like different ammo than another even if they are same make and model. I always keep the ramps polished and that sure helps the picky ones get unpicky.

I use Federal HST in my 9mm Shield as well. Going to buy more for my new full size M&P 9mm.
What weight bullets you guys getting? I've been buying 115 but thinking of changing to 124

I'd be curious to see how these work. The .380 HST's do not perform like the 9mm and up rounds.
Both of my pistols are loaded with 180gr (.40 cal) HST's and if I had a 9mm or 45, it would be loaded with HST's too. In 9mm it would be the 150gr.

I usually go with heavy for caliber . However, after doing a great deal of research, I have chosen to go with 124 gr in 9 mm.

I have in the HST: 230gr for the 45, 165gr for the 40, 124gr for the 9mm and 99gr for her 380. Never seen 150 gr in 9mm HST. Testing seems to show that the heavier bullets in SD rounds tend to spread more consistently. Handling the recoil (heavy bullet usually means more recoil) and getting back on target is much more important than the bullet weight, but so is practice.

I got some for my mom in her PPS. I couldn't tell a difference between it and 124gr concerning recoil.
This will be more adult reading material when the 38 specials are out and tested.
