I went up to ProDefense today and overheard a quite disturbing conversation. The officer was picking up a pistol and was asked for his CHL to speed up the purchase (I suppose)
Clerk: Officer, do you have a CHL license?
Sherrif: What is a CHL license?
Clerk: *speechless*
Everyone who heard the conversation: *speechless, jaw dropped*

Are you sure he was a Harris C. Sheriff's deputy? I don't think I'd have been able to keep my mouth shut.
Clerk: Officer, do you have a CHL license?
Sheriff: What is a CHL license?
Clerk: *speechless*
Sarcastic bystander: Uhh that would be your Cabbage Handlers License.

Absolutely, he was in uniform picking up that pistol and a bag for somebody he works with.

When I fly with cabbages...I make sure they are unloaded, and kept separate from the dressing...Its the law...
I remember the first time I presented my unloaded cabbage at the ticket counter...The girl freaked out a little bit which caused "jimlongley" to enter the scene where he quoted book, chapter and verse of the FAA's rules regarding cabbage handling...
Better to be a smart one, than a dumb one...

Why would they ask for a CHL in the first place if hes a deputy? Why couldnt he just show his ID and skip the check?

Because a LEO ID doesn't count for skipping NICS, but a Texas CHL does.
It's something that enraged a few LEOs before NICS, during the three-day waiting period days. They couldn't get a pistol today, but a CHL could cash-and-carry. :D

And she still insisted on holding it upside down and sweeping everyone with the muzzle.

I can picture someone picking the pistol/cabbage up with the thumb and trigger finger, lifting it up and going, "eeeewwwwwweeeeuuuuu" whats this?"
Like they were picking up a dirty diaper or something...
My cynical side has a boundary which I have not come even close to breaching yet...

I can only hope that he did not know what "CHL" meant, but knows there is a right to concealed carry.
