So I ran by academy because I was in need of ammo for IDPA shooting. I saw this mega-pack of Remington UMC ammo. 250 rounds for $40 seemed pretty reasonable, so I bought a pack. IDPA match was cancelled so I haven't shot it yet.

I'd not seen this brand of ammo before until recenty, though it seems to have existed for a while now. From all appearances, it looks to be Remington's answer to WWB. The seemingly new availability of this ammo seems to indicate this, and I imagine with ammo costs going up even more and their already high prices, Remington has been losing consumers. Perhaps a push to cheap ammo is an effort to stave off the effects of the low sales of their expensive stuff.

Anyone shot much of this stuff? It seems pretty standard - 115gr. FMJ 9mm rounds. They look just like WWB rounds, but with a different stamp on the case.

I've shot the UMC 115 gr. through my USP9C and 92FS, and it all went bang but it was a little dirty (about the same as Winchester white box-#Q4172). As far as recoil/muzzle flash goes, the UMC is fairly sedate, and these rounds feel the same as the Winchester Q4172 load. I'm sitting on about 600 rounds of Q4172 at the moment, so that is my plinking round of choice.

I like to use a few mags of hotter 124 gr. 9mm NATO-spec rounds during range trips to simulate the recoil of +P/+P+ defensive rounds. Sportsman's Guide and Widener's both have some really good Federal 9mm NATO-spec ammo (#XMLN91) with lead-free primers and encapsulated bullets (no lead vapor, very healthy for indoor range use ). This stuff shoots very cleanly, and I like the fact that my lead exposure is greatly minimized with these rounds. What make/model of pistol are you shooting? If you're shooting an H&K, Sig or Beretta, etc. you should be good-to-go with the NATO loads.

For plinking/target practice though, UMC will do the job fine.

Yep, Shot a bit of it. Never had any problems. I prefer the 124gr stuff for 9mm, So I buy the UMC that comes in the White and Green Boxes. It seems a little cleaner than the Bulk packs to me. shot a boat load of it and sitting on at least another 1000rds. I buy more everytime I see a Sale.

I bought some 124gr Blazer Brass for IDPA day. I've never run any through my auto Loaders and thought I would give it a try. shot a couple of boxes of the Blazer aluminum through my Revolver though.

UMC is Remington's "value" line of ammo. I've used quite a bit of it in several different calibers. It is accurate and reliable but, a little dirtier than premium ammunition. Of the various range ammunition out there the UMC seems to have the brightest muzzle flash if you are shooting it in low light situations.

Speaking of mil-spec 9mm, I think I'm going to buy a case of this stuff next time I make a trip out to Brenham for ammo:

$0.18/round doesn't seem too bad for that kind of round. They've also got this S&B surplus steel-cased stuff I might pick up, called "Range Safe". I'm not really sure what that name means, but the price looks pretty nice. Anyone know anything about this stuff?

The UMC that I have purchased is limited to 44 mag.....it is the warmest factory load I have ever fired in this caliber. Good stuff if you want ammo with a little "spirit"

I have shot a lot of UMC in 9mm,.40 and .45. It is was I use for practice most of the time. I have never had a single issue with it.

I used to shoot nothing but WWB 115gr. 9mm. I just recently started shooting UMC bulk pack for USPSA because its a lil cheaper. Ive noticed the UMC has noticeably less recoil than WWB. Also recently tried some Fiocchi and really liked it for real world practice, but not for competition. Fiocchi has the most recoil out of the three that ive shot.

Just went through another 250 rounds of 45 with no problems.

UMC ammo has been around since 1867.

Hmmmmmm, must be a regional thing...We had gone to Bailey's and my co-worker bought a few boxes of Remington "UMC" that were in the Green and white boxes...

But here or there...I'm color-blind anyway...Reds and Greens look kinda funny...

It still comes in green and white boxes. The yellow boxes are the 250 round mega packs.
