I have a Time Warner modem hard wired to my computer. My wife uses her computer just a room or so away with a 802.11b/g/n Wireless WiFi Card, and has very slow connection speeds on the network. I've tried using a USB wireless stick instead, but no help. There are no electronics interfering that I know of. In this diagram, my PC is "I" and wife's PC is "II"

Is there anything I can do/add, other than having Time Warner drop another cable in my wife's computer room? Thanks for any sound advice.

So your TWC modem also is your wifi source as well as a modem. I have a similar setup and find that the TWC modem (which in my case is also telephone) has a pretty poor wifi output but has a pretty fast internet modem capability. You could as you mentioned hardwire your wife's computer or you could get a better wifi router such as netgear or dlink (I don't like linksys), you would have to get into your TWC modems settings to turn off the wifi part and go from there. Nothing beats hard wiring for speed though. If you get a second wifi router make sure that you set it's IP address as different from the TWC address. For curiosity, how do your smartphones do when next to your wife's computer? I use an app called speedtest to see how fast our wireless does at different locations.

Next to my computer I get 46mbps. Next to my wife's computer I only get 20mbps.

At what looks like such a short distance and probably not steel walls I would bet that you just have a weak TWC wifi router. In my house I added a wifi extender which does help somewhat but for whatever reason every now and then I have to unplug and replug the extender and sometimes unplug the modem-router and replug. I will lose wifi on my phone and my wife's phone will work great. I have never found an ideal wifi system that always works. Not yet anyway. Linksys routers in my hands bomb out after 2-3 months. Netgears work best.

Get your own Modem.. Get a good WIFI router.. Turn in the old one and save a little on the monthly bills and get equipment that actually works.

This is an excellent idea. I would go this route if my telephone service was not part of the modem.

How many feet are there in a direct line from your router/modem/wifi to your wife's PC? The signal strength deteriorates over distance. This has been a chronic problem in my house, where the FiOS comes into the house on one side of the house, with a wifi router connected by Ethernet cable to the Frontier box in the garage; but nearly all the connected devices are on the other side of the house.....which is roughly 2,900 sq ft, with walls and a brick fireplace between the router and the receiving devices. Frontier offers a paired set of wifi extenders, which I recall costing about $99 for the pair. One of them connects to the router itself through one of the Ethernet ports (you get slightly better performance if you log into the router and turn off its radio). You put the other unit across the house and just plug it into the wall. It receives and outputs and amplified signal from the original router.

It works great.

What is your internet speed cap? What is the TWC modem/router model? 802.11 AC WiFi adapter should give you much better throughput than the old b/g/n. If the TWC WiFi is not AC, then you can also turn off the wireless in it and put in a good AC compatible WiFi router.

Get a "business class" access point to connect to your router. These devices operate at higher power than consumer class devices like Linksys and Netgear you get inexpensively at Best Buy.

Where is it located? On the floor under a desk? On a shelf behind your monitor?

I have similar issues with my WiFi. Downstairs everyone seems to be happy. My bedroom upstairs and on the opposite end of the house not so much. The one thing I did that made the most difference was relocate the router/wireless hub on top of a tall bookshelf. In fact it is on a tall box on top of the tall bookshelf. Now I get acceptable, but not remarkable, speed in my bedroom upstairs and 40' feet away.

WPA2-PSK is not a model number. You don't need an extender for your WiFi, 20 feet is fine. What the issue more than likely is that the WiFi adapter in your wife's computer just won't do more than about 25 Mbps throughput. Once we know your modem model we can determine if it is an 802.11 ac router and then if so, all you would need is to get an 802.11 ac adapter for your wife's computer.
