Multiple weapons & Single purchase = Gun registration?

I was window shopping at my favorite gun shop a few days ago and the owner tells me during our conversation that if there are multiple handguns on a single purchase then the law requires him to report details (name address and serial numbers to the federal govt. He called it pure gun registration. He reccomended making purchases at 5 day intervals, if neccessary, to avoid this.
Has anyone heard of this? I had not and was just curious.

If you sell or dispose of more than one handgun to any non-licensee during a period of 5 consecutive business days, the sale must be reported on ATF Form 3310.4, Report of Multiple Sale or Other Disposition of Pistols and Revolvers, not later than the close of the business day on which you sold or disposed of the second handgun. The licensee must forward a copy of the Form 3310.4 to the ATF office specified thereon, and another copy must be forwarded to the State police or local law enforcement agency where the sale occurred. A copy of the Form 3310.4 also must be attached to the firearms transaction record, ATF Form 4473, documenting the sale or disposition of the second handgun.
A business day for purposes of reporting multiple sales of pistols or revolvers is a day that a licensee conducts business pursuant to the license, regardless of whether State offices are open. The application of the term “business day� is, therefore, distinguishable from the term “business day� as used in the NICS context. Example: A licensee conducts business only on Saturdays and Sundays, days on which State offices are not open. The licensee sells a pistol to an unlicensed person on a Saturday. If that same unlicensed person acquires another handgun the next day (Sunday), the following Saturday or Sunday, or the Saturday after the reporting requirement would be triggered, the subsequent acquisition of a handgun would have to be reported on a Form 3310.4 by the close of the day upon which the second or subsequent handgun was sold.

I saw something about someone getting a visit from the ATF after buying two guns at the same time. Don't remember which thread it was.

Are we talking two of the same gun or 2 different guns? I can see walking into a gun shop and buying 3 different kinds of guns. I bought both a .22 rifle and a 1911 at a pawn shop at the same time 3 days ago. i didnt see them fill out any extra forms.

Believe me, after that whole thing that went down at Virginia Tech, we'll probably see a lot more of those type of visits. If they showed up at my door, I would show them what they wanted to see, no problem, but I do think it's an invasion of my privacy. A better solution is just to buy from an individual with no paperwork...legal in Texas. Some of the stuff I want is brand new though...so I have to deal with it.

they just have to file a report
I have been told by dealers I trust it's no big deal and they probably can't track it anyways
it's legal to do...
I have done it several times...

The licensee must forward a copy of the Form 3310.4 to the ATF office specified thereon, and another copy must be forwarded to the State police or local law enforcement agency where the sale occurred.
I just googled 'Form 3310.4' and it returned this pdf:

A lot of information on the form about the buyer that is being sent to ATF and the state if 2 handguns are purchased within 5 working days from the same FFL dealer.
Timing may be a consideration for those wanting husband & wife type matching set purchases.

A friend just got his license to sell weapons for his new business. The ATF told him if selling two handguns at one buy, paperwork has to be in within five days. If the purchase is five handguns or greater, he has to place a call to them prior to the sell. Again, this is just what he told me.

Can you avoid that by buying the first, and putting the 2nd on layaway until the next week?
IOW, is it not a sale until the buyer takes possession?

Yup. The sale is completed and the Form 4473 required when you actually take possession of the firearm.

I recently ordered two pistols from an online dealer that will probably be delivered to my FFL early next week. In light of this post, I'm starting to wonder if I should only take possession of one pistol at a time (and return the following week to conduct a separate transfer for the second pistol).
Has anyone else taken this approach? I'm also curious about any ramifications that these transfers may have on the processing of my CHL application. Are pistol transfers noticed/examined by the CHL licensing staff? I realize that I'm probably just trippin' here, but I am
beginning to wonder... 
To be clear, I don't mind following the law at all;
however, I'd just as soon avoid any unnecessary paperwork/hassle/registration. I feel like a character from
