The City Of Markham (a suburb of Chicago) has elected a convicted felon as their mayor.

So by Illinois State law, he cannot take the oath of office as Mayor. How did they let him register as a candidate?
Sounds like the same geniuses who pass Illinois gun laws.

Maybe they need to have universal background checks for political candidates. They can do a lot more damage than guns.

Liberals want ex-felons to be fully accepted into society after they have been convicted. Voting, mayor, preschool teacher, uber driver, full intitlements, no restrictions, a fair chance to reoffend, any thing else would be racist and discriminatory.

Many cities, counties and states have felons for officials, they just have never been convicted......

Personally, as long as it was disclosed and people still voted for him, they got what the wanted. The people have spoken.
When did we stop believing in doing your time and repaying your debt to society ? I don't believe being convicted of something should 'cool' or remove your constitutional rights permanently. Remember, they weren't granted by the constitution, merely affirmed by it.

As the saying goes, DC elected Marion Barry to a 4th term as mayor so he could have another crack at it.

I saw Barry in DC a number of years ago before he died but while he was still on the D.C. Council. He looked bad. Crack will do that to you. As will meth.
