“Texans understand rights come with responsibilities, and those that have proven to be irresponsible do not deserve, do not have, under the law, a right to carry a gun,” Acevedo said. “Quite frankly, we in law enforcement cannot have our hands tied.”

Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Just wait a minute and Austin will be in line.

This is the mindset and thinking you get from your left/Progressive institutions.

"Can't have his hands tied."?

Sounds like someone is too caught up in being a LEO and has forgotten the place of a Peace Officer.

When was the last time he enforced a real law? (unconstitutional laws don't count)

Art Ace- :tiphat: is right. Those that have been proven to be irresponsible do not have, under the law, a right to own a gun let alone to carry it. Leave the rest of us alone Acewhatever.

:iagree: I've had mixed emotions about this, but if you're a responsible citizen, why not have the right to defend yourself? But, as soon as you demonstrate irresponsibility, you should lose your rights, at least in public.

What oohrah said exactly.

The typical leftist mindset is that if citizens can carry guns, then there will be blood running in the streets and it will be the OK Corral every day.

This has not happened.

I haven't heard anyone arguing that felons and domestic abusers should be legally allowed to carry guns in public, but this Chief LEO is trying to stir up fear by using innuendo that would suggest to the ignorant sheep that our legislature is trying to pass a law that makes it legal for anyone to carry a gun. The bill makes it legal for the law-abiding to carry a gun without a license.

The government already has too much power in determining who can legally own a gun and who can't. They think that they can define and interpret the laws however they want to. They want to be able to define who is mentally ill, expand what it means to be a domestic abuser, elevate misdemeanors into felonies, and they want to be able to restrict a person from being able to buy guns simply by placing you on a watch list. I personally like the Texas LTC law. I like that people have to take training, and that people are given a background check. But the government wants to abuse the system, and lie to us about it. Enough is enough. Pass HB1911. And let's rub it in Acevedo's face when violent crime, armed robbery, and murder goes down.

As others have noted, including Rep. White, law enforcement organizations and individual officers who have been promoted to the rank of politician rather than COP have falsely made the same claims against CHL in 1995, no 30.06 on government property in 2001, Motorist Protection Act in 2007 and open-carry in 2015. They were lying them and they are lying now.

BTW, California transplant Art Acevedo is on the Texas Gun Sense Advisory Board according to Texas Gun Sense.

I believe these are the type of law enforcement officials who will be willing to order the officers under them to confiscate citizens firearms when ordered to by the Feds.
