Making 1911 Grips Thinner?

I have a pair of buffalo bone 1911 grips. They are more thick than I like. Is it possible to sand them down with a flat belt sander to a standard size?
If so is there anyone in the DFW area that would like to try this project.

I think you would change the dimensions so they would no longer fit the magazine well.
I believe you would have to take it off the top not the bottom. Imagine sanding a half circle, the distance between the outer edges get smaller and smaller as you sand from the middle out.

You should probably try to hand sand these. I would screw them to piece of wood that is about the same width to use the wood as a way to hold them. Then I would hand sand them in the middle to remove some thickness

I'd contact one ofthe custom grip makers and see what they would charge. Buffalo bone sounds expensive so it may be worth the cost of having a professional do it.
