Purchased the Ultra Covert II yesterday and fired 100 rds today. Followed the advise of Kimber and field striped and clean the gun prior to going to the range. I might add that I purchased the Wilson magazine and have yet to try the factor mag. I started out with 80 rds of Corbon Pow'RBall. The Corbon's and the Covert worked perfect with no problems. Ran 20 rds of Hornady 200 gr TAP ammo with 2 FTF.

My plans are to continue with the Pow'RBall for the next 400 rds and then try the TAP ammo again. The Covert was extremely fun to shoot. The only thing that needs work is my shooting ability. I did not attempt to make any Laser or sight adjustments and will hold off until I get use to the gun and get things broken in a little more. I did manage to place most of the rounds in a fairly decent group and one that is acceptable to me for my first time with a compact 1911.

I'm more then happy with the little Kimber.

Can someone tell me the best place to purchase the Corbon Pow'RBall ammo in the Houston area.

Seems I saw some at Carter's Country over in the Spring area about a month or so ago so you might stop there if you are out that way or give them a call first and find out before you go.

Just me, but I'd be a lot more inclined to break her in with basic range FMJ, like Winchester White Box. The Pow'RBall is gonna cost four times--or more--what the FMJ will, and I can't think of a reason to subject that aluminum frame to 500 consecutive rounds of +P ammo as a break-in.

You make a good point and one I've debated with myself. I've not convinced myself that the 165gr Pow'RBall is going to cause excessive ware. The most sensible reason is the cost. Again my logic has been that I want to get very comfortable with the ammo that I intend on shooting when and if a more serious target presented itself. The best solution would be to run the less expensive through the gun for break-in and then focus on my carry ammo.

Skiprr is right about the +P ammo. I might run a few rounds through my gun to see how it marks the target but then practice with the 115 or 124 grain FMJ WW White box. I'd even try both the FMJ and the JHP to get a feel for how the two different rounds group. The +p adds pressure to the discharge and that wears the frame and slide more than the lighter loads.

Frames and slides have been known to crack. Even more so in the 40 S&W loads.

Today in my CHL class on the range qual, a fella 2 targets over had a Kimber...the thing was a freeking nail driver...it only malfunctioned once (guy got a massive flamage for it ) (he only had like 200 rounds thru it so it was VERY NEW)

Funny thing is his buddy that borrowed his pistol shot better than he did! Hows that for a burn "I outshot you with YOUR OWN pistol"

Only once is way too often... I wouldn't want to have my life depend on those odds.

Late Correction: I'm only referring to 9MM loads. I think you might be shooting a different caliber than I referred to... Point is that I would use standard loads and save the +P for personal defense use.

Use Snap Caps? Use them and practice focusing on the front sight until it is second nature. Once you really do focus on the front sight, your grouping will surely tighten up.

I've been looking for the snap caps and so far have had no luck here in North Houston. Any idea who carries them?

I do not think Academy carries them at any store, but you should suggest they start carrying them at your local store.

You can pick up some snap caps at Carter's Country in Spring and Bass Pro in Katy Mills Mall on the west side of Houston. There are probably other places to buy them in the North Houston area, but that is what I know off the top of my head.

If you want to order them from Cabelas online, they have two varieties for sale. I think one has a stronger spring in it. They save your firing pin from unnecessary wear and tear.

Don't know about Houston, but I bought mine online from MidwayUSA They have a good selection, so it may be worth checking out if you don't end up being able to find them locally.
