Dog Shoots Owner in the Back in Memphis, Tennessee

A Memphis, Tenn., man is in critical condition Wednesday after his dog shot him in the back.
Police say King George, a 150-pound Great Dane, accidentally knocked a .22-caliber pistol off his owner's end table around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. The gun went off, hitting his 21-year-old owner in the back, MyFOXMemphis.com reports.
"I knew he was smart, I didn't think he was that smart," the victim's fiancee, Miesha Lucas told MyFOXMemphis.com. "He was always protective. I didn't think he would be like that."
Police refused to name the victim as they do not plan to file charges in the shooting, which they've ruled as accidental.
Lucas told MyFOXMemphis.com that she fears what her fiance will do to the pet once he gets out of the hospital.
The shooting occurred in the Raleigh section of Memphis.

A cocked and unlocked 22???. Me thinks there are a few pieces missing from this puzzle.

I've got a Great Dane.
These dogs can unintentionally CLEAR a table with ONE swipe of their tail.
This guy wouldn't be the first guy to be shot by a dog. I wouldn't be shocked if this story were true.
And no, I'd don't leave loaded guns lying out. My loaded guns are carried or put up.

There are two statements that stand out that make me highly suspicious;

Lucas told MyFOXMemphis.com that she fears what her fiance will do to the pet once he gets out of the hospital
Both are odd statements that are inconsistent and irrelevant with the story as told.

The story said "pistol," but you can't rely on the media to get that kind of detail right.
Still, that scenario means the guy has an old .22 that doesn't have a disconnector, he keeps it loaded and cocked, lying around the house, it fell, discharged, and of all the places the bullet could possibly go, it hit him in the back.
I don't buy it.
