I'm sure many of you heard the news stories about the 83 year Arlington woman who was stabbed by a man on her porch while she watered her flowers. In the intial news reports (radio and newspaper), it was reported that her grandson confronted the suspect with a gun causing him to flee. Tonight on the Channel 8 newscast, it was reported that the grandson confronted the suspect - but no mention of the gun.

This falls in line with other news reports that fail to mention that a gun was used in self defense. Probably the most notable case was one of the school shootings at a university in the NE. A couple of college students confronted the shooter with their guns and held him until the Police arrived. News accounts related that they "tackled" the shooter.

And the media is not biased?

Personally, I'm willing to believe that it's just as likely that they're incompetent as biased. They certainly haven't earned a reputation for getting the facts right in *any* story, particularly "breaking news" type stories, regardless of whether guns are involved or not.

Edit: Certainly many in the media *are* biased, and it does show in the reporting, and particularly in editorials, but my point was that most major breaking stories appear to be reported by folks who are either falling-down drunk or in an alternate universe, and are not necessarily evidence of bias.

What I derive hope from is we know that within this circle of like minded people (concealed carry community), we know what the truth is, and how it really works...

The news media is no longer a source (to me) of very factual accounts or truth...Its more for entertainment and steering public opinion...

And I am not easily steered...(boy, that sounded awful, ehhh whatever )

I've seen plenty of instances where the story fairly reeked of bias - especially where firearms or conservatives are concerned - but in the few instances where I have personal experience of a newsworthy event, the coverage was rife with inaccuracies.

So consider - if they get stories about topics we're familiar with wrong so often, why should we trust their coverage about topics we're not familar with?

We have been spoon fed agenda driven news for at least the last 60 or so years but just in the last 15 to 20 years other news sources have become available to us, such as the internet and talk radio. The old media is beside themselves trying to silence these sources. They want their monopoly back.
There are too many people getting their news from the dinasour media but that is beginning to change ever so slightly.

WFAA is a Belo corporation, and they are VERY anti-gun. I cancelled my subscription to the Dallas Morning News (another Belo corp) several years ago when they decided to stop carrying private gun sales ads and list same sex marriage announcements.

+1 I no longer have cable TV because I was tired of all the media bias, and being force fed their version of the news

We here know the truth, the sheeple of this world bury their heads in the sand and hope for a better outcome that just ain't comin

Well call me a hypocrite...I still hang on to my cable subscription though...

I have to catch FoxyNews every now and then for just the entertainment value they give...

I leave it on during the day so the dogs don't get gun shy at every little creak and pop when the house is so quiet...

I left it on the Do it Yourself network one time and I caught the dogs spackling the drywall one day when I got home...They got the color pigment all wrong! Dirnit!

In truth, the main stream media do not view news reporting as disseminating information of potential value to their viewers/listeners, and have not done so for years. They view "news" as a means of entertaining and shaping the opinions of their viewers/listeners, subject solely to the whims of the Federal Legislature (through the FCC) and the court system.

If you want REAL news, you will have to go to other sources (such as the Internet), but be warned that regardless of the source, the coverage WILL have an agenda which you may (or may not) be privy to the contents. Actual critical thought may be required to determine the truth of the matters being reported.

This should give all of us a warning that there is some agenda for the news-media bias. If we didn't have guns to protect ourselves, what would the elite that control the media do to us? Would they control us and how?Think about that.
