I am a pistol guy. I had a Dan Wesson .357 that I got for $100 and I kick myself for selling it every time I think about it. However, the need for a revolver has arisen. I need this just to qualify on revolver so it wont be shot much. Just a few trips to the range and then now and again. I cant afford a Colt Python so that's out the window. Has anyone had any experience with this particular revolver? I have had Taurus pistols in the past and traded them out pretty quickly. I tend to favor H&K and S&W now. I know that Taurus is not in that category but this wont be a carry piece so thoughts?

I can’t afford a Python either, but there are Ruger and S&W choices that are in between the Taurus and the Colt that I would consider.

GrabaGun has the blued model for $359 and the stainless model for $499.

I'd buy a used S&W over a new Taurus revolver.

I have owned a blued 4" barrel Taurus Model 66 .357 (six rd) since 1988 and I love it. Very accurate and easy to shoot even w/ full .357 loads, though I usually use .38 special +P. It's not too heavy for a full size gun, but substantial enough to comfortably shoot .357.

I wouldn’t buy another Taurus to save my life. I own a model 85 and it’s been a decent little gun for a throw away. Taurus is so hit or miss and there is a reason they are cheap and it’s definitely not value. Save your pennies and buy a Ruger or a S&W

I am in the market for a .44M revolver. I actually rented a Taurus and a S&W. They both shot fine but the Taurus had a LOT of blow back. If I had to speculate, maybe 3-4 times as much as the S&W.
However, I cannot comment on the .357

I owned a 7-shot Model 66 (stainless) in the recent past. It worked well, I had no problems with it whatsoever. It was rather accurate in single-action and reasonable in double-action. It had a click-adjustable rear sight. Where I would say it could not compare to a Smith or Ruger was in the fit/finish department. There were sharp edges on it, the ratchet on the rear of the cylinder was crudely machined, and overall it had a rough look to it. I cannot speak on the long-term reliability, I only owned it about 4 or 5 years. Again, though, it WORKED just fine, and I put I don't know how many hundreds of .38 Specials, including quite a bit of +Ps, through it. I did fire some .357 but not many because they cost quite a bit more. For what you want to use it for, it would probably be just fine. I traded it for credit toward the purchase of a nicer firearm at an LGS. I didn't hate owning it, but I also didn't cry trading it, either.
